The HARI Foundation, Inc. (HFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., together with the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), launched the Hyundai New Thinkers Summit this past October 4 at the Hotel H2O and Manila Ocean Park. The convention lasted until October 6.
With the theme, “The Power of Youthinking: Youthink. Youtalk. Youtransform”, the New Thinkers Summit was a leadership and learning convention that invited 80 third-year high school students from 40 public schools located in Metro Manila, and Regions III and IV, to listen to talks and participate in activities pertaining to the ideas of today’s generation, leadership, climate change.
The themes of the convention were as follows: Climate Science; Youthink, which addressed the “i-Generation” or the new breed of digital natives; Youtalk, which discussed about the ability of the youth to take on leadership roles in society (“Leadershift”); and Youtransform, which focused on “Kin+Ethics” or youth-inspired campaigns for nation-building.
Experts and scientists were invited to speak at the convention, including Dr. Aletta Yñiguez of the University of the Philippines – Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI), Dr. Carlos Primo David from the University of the Philippines – National Institute of Geological Sciences (UP-NIGS), ABS-CBN Chief Digital Officer Donald Lim, Ideaspace founder Earl Valencia, columnist and entrepreneur RJ Ledesma, Lloydluna Communications CEO Lloyd Luna; Synergeia Foundation President & CEO Milwida Guevarra; and Mano Amiga Pilipinas Founder Eleanor Pinugo.
The Hyundai New Thinkers Summit also kicked off the 2013 World Space Week here in the Philippines.
