LG brings us closer to the future, carrying their brand of technology to the mainstream in all its shining plastic glory!
Silencing the rumors, LG, a leader in display technology innovations confirmed that it would start the mass-production of what they claim as the world’s first flexible OLED panel for smartphones.
“LG Display is launching a new era of flexible displays for smartphones with its industry-leading technology,” said Dr. Sang Deog Yeo, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Display. “The flexible display market is expected to grow quickly as this technology is expected to expand further into diverse applications including automotive displays, tablets and wearable devices. Our goal is to take an early lead in the flexible display market by introducing new products with enhanced performance and differentiated designs next year.”
This 0.44mm thin and lightweight OLED display is built on plastic substrates instead of glass giving it flexible and unbreakable properties. This also allows the display to be fixed inside devices with curved designs.
According to Techradar, reports suggest that LG could integrate its first flexible screen inside the G Flex, a new 6-inch smartphone set to be revealed next month. But LG points out that their new products with “enhanced performance and differentiated designs” will be coming next year.
