The UP Broadcasters’ Guild gears up for its month-long silver anniversary celebration with advocacy-oriented events together with its partner community Lakas ng Nagkakaisang Kababaihan.

The UP Broadcasters’ Guild (UP BroadGuild) is a socio-civic organization based in the College of Mass Communication (CMC) at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. Their main goals are to promote media education in student activities with the purpose of community development and to advocate for press freedom through the responsible use of mass communication.

The student formation kicked off its 25th-year celebration on April 25 with a media exhibit tackling celebrity studies in UP CMC, Plaridel Hall lobby.

Consistent with the organization’s dedication to media education, the week-long exhibit seeks to expand people’s understanding of celebrity studies as an emerging field of study in a world where an interconnected media landscape increases the visibility and connection of contemporary public figures.

Members of the UP community also enjoyed free ice cream from UP BroadGuild as a way to give back to the community and to share their advocacies and initiatives.

On May 3, the organization will hold Destino 2024: Timeless, a benefit concert featuring various artists including Hey June!, Waki and the Winstons, Muffin and the Blueberries, Meg Ruiz, and their resident artist Sydney Alipao. The benefit concert will commence at 6pm, at the second floor of Gyud Food Market, UP Diliman. Tickets start at P280 and are available for purchase through the following link: tinyurl.com/Destino2024Tickets

The concert is a fundraising event for the Lakas ng Nagkakaisang Kababaihan (LNK), an organization advocating for women’s rights based in Pook Aguinaldo, Barangay UP Campus. The same community organization is featured in a documentary produced by Sipat, UP BroadGuild’s official production arm, aiming to support and empower the community of LNK.

The documentary aspires to showcase women’s capability to contribute to society while being a mother, and to deliver a message thatcollective unity and purpose can leave a great impact. It is set to be premiered in Destino, and will be launched on UP BroadGuild’s social media pages a week after.

The organization also aims to reignite its relationship with its alumni through the Alumni Homecoming on May 18. Staying true to their identity and values, UP BroadGuild celebrates this event yearly to ensure that the organization remains close and resonant with its socio-civic ideals.

To cap off its anniversary celebration, the organization will relaunch The Whirl, its official publication arm on May 25, featuring written, audiovisual, and visual artworks by its members.
