LG Electronics’ InstaView refrigerator has surpassed 5.3 million units in cumulative global sales, marking a major milestone as the product celebrates the 10th anniversary of its launch in 2016.

The appliance is best known for its “Knock Twice, See Inside” feature, which allows users to view the refrigerator’s contents without opening the door. According to LG, the feature combines convenience with reduced cold-air loss while adding a distinctive visual element to the kitchen.

Strong demand across global markets

LG said cumulative sales of the InstaView refrigerator are equivalent to roughly one unit sold every minute since its debut. North America remains its strongest market, accounting for about 30% of total sales to date. The product has also gained traction in Europe, where consumers place a premium on energy efficiency, sustainability, and food preservation performance. Sales continue to rise in Asia and Latin America as demand for premium home appliances grows.

A different way to use the refrigerator

InstaView changed the way users interact with their refrigerator by allowing them to check its contents without repeatedly opening the door. This can help reduce unnecessary cold-air loss associated with frequent door opening while making it easier to see what is stored inside.

Over the past decade, the appliance has received recognition from several international design and innovation programs, including the Red Dot Design Award, iF Design Award, IDEA, and CES Innovation Award.

From practical feature to lifestyle element

LG’s analysis of global customer reviews indicates that consumer appreciation for InstaView has evolved over time. Early feedback focused primarily on the convenience of viewing the refrigerator’s contents and reducing cold-air loss. More recent reviews increasingly highlight the refrigerator’s design and the role it plays in the overall kitchen experience. This shift suggests that InstaView has moved beyond being seen purely as a functional feature and is now also valued for its aesthetic and lifestyle appeal.

“For a decade now, LG InstaView refrigerator has stood as a testament to our leadership in the home appliance market and to our deep understanding of customers’ lifestyles,” said Baek Seung-tae, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. “This milestone reflects our success in creating not just an innovative feature, but a more convenient and enjoyable kitchen experience. Building on our advanced AI, refrigeration and food preservation technologies, we will continue to lead the evolution of the kitchen experience with customer-centric innovations,” he added.

In Summary

LG InstaView has surpassed 5.3 million units in cumulative global sales, 10 years after its debut. Its signature knock-to-view feature has helped distinguish the refrigerator through convenience, reduced cold-air loss, and design appeal, while the product has continued to expand across major global markets.
