MobilityCarsBig car energy: GAC Philippines debuts the all-new AION UT EV hatchback

GAC Philippines is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the all-new AION UT, a compact EV hatchback designed for urban mobility while delivering what the brand describes as unmistakable “big car energy.”

Already gaining traction in markets including Thailand, Australia, Europe, and Latin America, the AION UT arrives in the Philippines with a combination of compact dimensions, spacious interior packaging, advanced driver assistance systems, and practical everyday usability.

Positioned for younger city drivers and tech-focused commuters, the AION UT blends European-inspired styling with EV-focused functionality to make daily driving more comfortable and efficient.

Compact outside, surprisingly spacious inside

Although classified as a five-seater compact hatchback, the AION UT was engineered around a dedicated EV platform that prioritizes cabin space and passenger comfort.

The vehicle features a class-leading 2,750mm wheelbase paired with 905mm of rear legroom, allowing three adults to sit comfortably in the rear cabin despite the hatchback footprint.

The lounge-like interior also includes 24 storage compartments and a flexible 440-liter cargo area that expands further when the rear seats are folded.

Steven Wang, senior vice president of GAC International, described the AION UT as another major step in expanding the company’s mobility portfolio in the Philippines.

“We are thrilled to bring another global hit from GAC’s line of innovations to the Philippines through the AION UT,” Wang said. “We are confident that the AION UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos upon its entry this 2026.”

ADAS and urban-focused safety features

The AION UT comes equipped with an extensive ADAS suite designed for both first-time EV owners and experienced city drivers navigating heavy traffic.

Key features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and a 360-degree Surround View Camera System.

Additional safety technologies include large 2.1-meter V-shape side curtain airbags and a Reverse Mis-Acceleration Mitigation system.

The hatchback also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing the vehicle to power external electronics during outdoor trips or emergency situations.

The AION UT features a lounge-like cabin layout with class-leading passenger space and urban-focused practicality.

Powertrain, charging, and connected technology

The AION UT Elite variant uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor producing 100kW or 136PS and 180Nm of torque, optimized for responsive city driving.

Power comes from GAC’s 47.1kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate “Magazine Battery” system paired with a high-strength steel body structure.

DC fast charging allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in around 30 minutes, helping reduce charging downtime during daily commutes.

Inside the cabin, drivers get an 8.88-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The vehicle rides on 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/60 R16 tires designed for comfort and stability on urban roads.

Pricing, warranty, and availability

The AION UT Elite is priced at PHP1,068,000, with an introductory price of PHP998,000 valid until June 30, 2026. An additional PHP20,000 discount is available for the first 400 units sold.

Color options include Champs-Elysees Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, Seine Silver, and a two-tone Rococo White + Emerald Green combination.

GAC Philippines also includes an 8-year or 160,000km warranty for EV models, plus an 8-year or 200,000km warranty for the core three-electric system, along with 2 years of free roadside assistance.
