Solar Transport Automotive Resources Corp. (STAR Corp.), BYD Auto China Ltd. Co.’s official Philippine distributor, recently exhibited the e6 long-range pure-electric utility vehicle as part of its sponsorship duties during the 4th Electric Vehicle Summit 2015. Held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Meralco Fitness Center in Pasig City last February 26 and 27, the summit bore the theme “Sustaining the Gains in Philippine Electric Vehicle Development.”

The e6 SUV-sedan crossover features a 75kW motor powered by BYD’s signature Iron Phosphate (Fe) Battery, a fire-safe and recyclable energy source capable of going as far as 300km in urban conditions on one full charge. The power plant has a pulling power of 450Nm and can rev the e6 from zero to 60kph in just 7.69 seconds up to a maximum 140kph.

Besides one of the longest travel ranges for an EV, the BYD e6 boasts other practical advantages, including zero pollution and low noise when running; two hours optimized charging; low operational costs; exceptional driving performance; and bi-directional charging and discharging.

“Green technology, particularly electric vehicles, is the way of the future. And BYD will continue to support the electric vehicle development in the country,” said Mark Andrew Tieng, managing director of STAR Corp. “We look forward to the day when eVehicles can occupy a portion of the nation’s highways and roadways and a future when green car space is the norm rather than the exception.”

The Electric Vehicle Summit is an annual event organized by the Electric Vehicles Association of the Philippines (EVAP). It serves as a platform for various e-vehicle importers and distributors to showcase their eco-friendly and sustainable nameplates.

According to Rommel T. Juan, EVAP president, “We would love to believe that the nation has now accepted electric vehicles as a viable alternative mode of transport.  We continue sustaining our gains and pretty soon, we can finally lay claim to the title Electric Vehicle Hub of Southeast Asia.  Thus, we will push for our campaign for One Million EVs on Philippine roads by 2020.”
