Upgrade your “throne” with the Toilet 2.0

    0

If there’s one gadget I consider the most revolutionary gadget of all time (and no, it’s not the phone or even the computer), it is, hands down, the toilet. I could readily give up any other technology, live an almost post-apocalyptic existence or go back in time as a hunter-gatherer or shepherdess, so long as I had an awesome bathroom with a fully-functional toilet.

And now, this throne might just get a design upgrade. David Hakkens introduces the Toilet 2.0 – a cleaner, tougher, and “greener” way to excuse oneself. The Toilet 2.0 is uses Corian instead of porcelain so that it’s lighter, thinner, and stronger. The wide, shallow shape of the bowl prevents water (and any unpleasant waste) from splashing in or out. It also comes with a built-in freshener that’s easily refillable as well as eight spraying points for high-pressure cleaning. By using the high-pressure cleaning system and reusing gray water from other water supplies like sinks to flush the lines (but not the bowl), it conserves the use of clean water.

It’s still a work in progress. But definitely, this is something fit for Mother Nature herself.

Pay what you want for five great indie games

    1

Want to grab five great games and feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Well, today’s your day – The Humble Indie Bundle 3 allows you to set your own price on five fantastic indie games. You read that right, YOU get to set the price you’re willing to part with for these five games. But before you set the price to .05 US cents, keep in mind that aside from splitting the money five ways, a portion of the proceeds also go to two other organizations: Child’s Play and Electronic Frontier Foundation. The former is a charity organization founded by gamers and the latter is a civil liberties group defending rights in the digital world. As with the bundle, you’ll also get to decide how much each organization gets (or if they get anything at all). As of writing, the operating system with the biggest wallets seems to be the Linux guys (with an average of $10.77 spent on the bundle)  with the Windows guys being the stingiest (with an average of $3.83) and the Mac guys floating in the middle (an average of  $6.10).

Razer’s Switchblade gaming device has first dibs on new Intel Atom Z690 procie

    0

Razer’s Switchblade concept gaming device made quite a splash when it was unveiled back in January in CES. The concept device promises to deliver unparalleled mobile gaming experience without sacrificing controls and customizability, two things that Razer’s been known for. Aside from customizable controls and an ultra-sensitive multi-touch screen, the Switchblade’s getting a hardware bump courtesy of Intel’s brand spanking new Intel Atom Z690 processor which will run at 1.70 GHz.

“Intel is very excited to be working closely with Razer on the next generation of mobile handheld PC gaming,” said Brad Graff, consumer marketing director, Netbook and Tablet Group, Intel. “The Razer Switchblade concept takes advantage of the Intel Atom processor, providing the performance needed to run 3D PC games in a small and light form factor to enable mobile gaming at significantly less power than a traditional laptop.”

There’s still no word if it’ll ever be available (it is a concept device after all) or the game’s it’ll be able to play, but as soon as we get word, you guys will be the first to know.

Turn your Mac’s trackpad into a MIDI controller

If you’re an electronic musician, lugging around a MIDI controller can eventually take its toll. Not only can the added weight be a burden, but finding space for it in your bag or car can create unnecessary stress.

If you’re a Mac user however, all you may need for a live performance is your laptop.

Meet Track Master, an app designed by LSD Programming that transforms your multi-gesture trackpad into an X/Y MIDI controller without any additional hardware.

It grants users the capability to play a “keyboard” in any key and can detect up to 11 fingers (we’ll leave it to your imagination how you might do this).  Track Master can also be used as an X/Y grid for filter sweeps, etc., and programming the app will be a breeze since it also has MIDI learn, granting full customization. Moreover, the virtual interface also displays tracking stats, such as the precise location of your fingers on the trackpad.

Users may also opt to use Track Master with Magic Trackpad, if they desire the feel of a separate controller, although this sort of defeats the purpose of the app. Track Master has been confirmed to work with Ableton Live, Logic and Traktor and GarageBand.

Track Master (version 2.0) is available on iTunes for $4.99 (approximately Php 212.00).

    Requirements:
    OS X 10.6.6 and above
Magic Trackpad or MacBooks, Macbook Pros or Macbook Airs with a multi-touch trackpad

Man builds adorable Wall-E robot, makes us want one real bad

    0

We’ve seen a few modders build works of nerd art before, but amateur roboticist/tech sorcerer DJ Sures has managed to combine technical badassery and critical levels of cuteness in one go. He’s managed to create his own talking and moving version of Wall-E, complete with voice recognition technology built-in. He used a combination of his own EZ-B Robot Controller, a couple of motorized servos, wireless camera and stuffed them all in a U-Command Wall-E. The end result is pretty damn amazing and extremely adorable, and if you’re up to it, you can probably build one yourself if you have the time and inclination to make such things. We’ve embedded a video below of the thing in action, but be warned, watching it will make you go daaaww uncontrollably.

No more peeing in a cup – new tech detects drug use from fingerprints

    0

People who have and have applied for a driver’s license know how much of a bummer the whole process is, especially when it comes to the part when you have to pee in a cup, usually in view of the lab tech. Well, that might be a thing of the past if Paul Yates and his crew from Intelligent Fingerprinting gets their way. They have developed a way for police to be able to detect drugs using your fingerprints. It’s able to do this via the application of gold nanoparticles coated with antibodies that stick to antigens on specific metabolites (waste particles) that get secreted through your pores. Fluorescent dyes attached to the antibodies will highlight the presence of any metabolites, which will give feedback if a user has been using a drug. While the technology is being aimed at law enforcement to help identify perpetrators using drugs, it’s not hard to see the potential use of this particular tech in places and procedures where drug testing is critical.

Jawbone UP: bracelet that may UP the years of your life

    0

It’s ironic, that despite much technological advancement, we as a race are still plagued by disease, the most ironic of which is the growing rate of lifestyle-related diseases and the harmful effects of both malnutrition and obesity. So if we not only want to prolong our lives but improve the quality of it as well, we should begin thinking up of new innovations that will help us achieve both.

Jawbone recently introduced an electronic bracelet that can track your movement, sleep patterns and eating habits and put that information in the palm of your hand. Named UP, the band serves users the whole day and night via sensors which relay movement and sleep patterns to an app accessible to either your phone, tablet, or computer. Users can also type in the nutritional data of their diet. Equipped with all of this information, the app allows you to catalogue your daily activity and tailor-fit a lifestyle that’s right (and healthy) for you.

But don’t worry. The UP is designed to not cramp your style and remain comfortable to wear.

And who says good things had to taste (or in this case, look) bad?

The Jawbone UP is due to be released later this year.

    Toyota’s interactive window concept

    0

It seems that augmented reality has been taken a step further, as Toyota aims to implement the technology in their automobile designs.

Toyota Motor Europe’s Kansei Design Division has unveiled a conceptual interactive touchscreen window. It will reportedly be capable of “Drawing in Motion”, “zooming into captured moments in time”, translating languages, tracking distances and can create “virtual constellations” on a car’s ceiling.

The goal is to keep children busy and entertained during road trips, which I’m sure a majority of parents will greatly appreciate. The interactive window concept also promotes children’s curiosity about their environment and the objects they pass outside.

For a concept demonstration, view the video below:

ThumbMOB launches Vuclip locally – view online videos on any device, on any carrier

    1

Filipinos love viewing videos online – a study by Synovate in August 2010 reported that more than half (53%) of Filipinos surveyed said they watched videos online, while one in three had uploaded photos or videos – the highest percentage in Asia. So it’s not hard to see why ThumbMOB, a developer of Social Games and Apps on Mobile Devices would want to bring Vuclip, the world’s largest independent mobile video service, to the Philippines. So what makes Vuclip different from YouTube and all the other video sharing sites already on the web? Well, Vuclip promises to deliver video to any phone, on the fly, no downloads required. The company says that as long as a phone can surf the net, the service will work on it.

“The Philippines is another excellent market for Vuclip. Already, without any promotion, there are over 350,000 Filipinos using Vuclip to watch videos on their mobile phones,”said Nickhil Jakatdar Co-Founder and CEO of Vuclip, adding “Vuclip is a catalyst for a new mobile video ecosystem that brings together carriers, content providers, advertisers and consumers, in fact anyone who wants to be a part of the burgeoning mobile video experience.”

“Vuclip’s service does particularly well in places where the mobile screen is often the onlyway to access the Internet. We are already the number one mobile video service inplaces like India, Indonesia and Malaysia, ” Jakatdar added.

Vuclip will be available on all three major carriers through special data plans, starting at just Php 10 for two hours of unlimited video access. Just type “m.Vuclip.com” on your phone browser; or click on the Vuclip button on select MyPhone phone models.
