The Philippines’ largest wireless service provider, Smart Communications, Inc, along with MCA Music, have just launched the largest online music portal in the Philippines. Smart Music allows both prepaid and postpaid subscribers of Smart to download any of the three Million songs under the MCA Music label. Subscribers will have the option to download the content straight onto their phones or to their laptops simply by heading to smart.com.ph/music, registering their account and choosing the appropriate options. New tracks will be available for PHP20, while everything else can be downloaded for just PHP15, far less than half the cost of other legitimate music download services. Just head over, sign in and pick your tracks. No 30-second clips, no soundbites, just pure music in all its complete glory.
Smart Music deducts the cost of the track from subscribers’ prepaid load or charges their postpaid account, eliminating the need for a credit card, which remains a real hindrance for many Filipinos from downloading music legitimately. The deal not only brings the MCA Music global catalog to Smart, Talk ‘N Text and Sun’s 70 million-plus subscribers, Smart Music is just the first step in the group’s drive to offer even more content to each and every one with a Smart phone, according to Charles Lim, EVP and head of wireless consumer business for Smart and Sun Cellular.
“We will rapidly grow our multimedia content offerings in the next few months. What better way to jumpstart this effort than by offering what’s close to the heart of Filipinos: Music.” Lim Said. “Music is such a part of Filipinos’ lifestyle. Through this partnership with Universal Music Group (UMGI) and its local company MCA music, we will enrich our subscribers’ lives by democratizing access to legitimate music, and enabling them to keep creating playlists of heir lives in a fast, easy and affordable way,” he added.
MCA music boasts a catalog that spans musical genres and eras. The record company carries under its label some of the world’s largest musical artists, including Taylor Swift, Justin Beiber, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, U2, the Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, and classics such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and a long list of Motown tracks.
The local roster of MCA is headed by artists such as Ely Buendia and his bands Pupil and the Oktaves, Sitti, Nyoy Volante, Urbandub, Franco, ChicoSci and more.
“With the number of subscribers Smart has across the country, we’re virtually rolling out millions of retail outlets right in the hands of our customers,” said Ricky Ilacad, president of MCA Music. “We at UMGI and MCA Music are excited to bring roster of global and local artists closer to every music lover,” he added.
For a limited time, subscribers who sign up for Smart Music get two free music downloads free, so head over to smart.com.ph/music and get the beat going.
