Network and endpoint security specialist Sophos announced last February 10 that it will be acquiring Fairfax, Virginia-based security solutions provider Invincea.

Founded by Chief Executive Officer Anup Gosh, Invincea sought to address the rapidly growing zero-day security threat from nation states, cyber criminals and rogue actors. X by Invincea, the company’s flagship, uses deep learning neural networks and behavorial monitoring to identify previously unseen malware and prevents attacks before any damage occurs.

“By adding Invincea to our portfolio, Sophos is executing on its vision to assemble the most powerful technologies to provide the very best, cutting-edge defenses for our customers,” Sophos CEO Kris Hagerman said in an official statement.

Hagerman added that the acquisition will strengthen Sophos’ next-generation endpoint protection portfolio with predictive, machine learning-based detection which the company thinks will progressively be more important in the future.

“X by Invincea represents a new generation in antivirus technology based on deep learning and behavioral monitoring. Joining forces with Sophos presents the perfect opportunity to take our proven, advanced technology to a global audience and make it part of a comprehensive synchronized security system,” Gosh commented.

Invincea will be acquired by Sophos for USD 100 million with a USD 20 million earn-out with the new division keeping its office in Fairfax and CEO Anup Gosh and COO Norm Laudermilch joining the company in key leadership positions.

Invincea Labs, a separately managed and operated division of Invincea was not part of the transaction.
