EastWest has expanded its digital payment offerings with the launch of Garmin Pay, which allows eligible Visa and Mastercard cardholders to make contactless payments with compatible Garmin smartwatches.

The service enables customers to pay by tapping their wearable at contactless-enabled payment terminals without needing to carry a physical card, cash, or a mobile phone.

Paying With a Garmin Smartwatch

Eligible EastWest customers can enroll Visa debit cards, Visa credit cards, and Mastercard credit cards in Garmin Pay. Users may also add multiple EastWest cards and select which one to use for purchases, providing greater flexibility for everyday spending both locally and overseas.

Compatible Garmin smartwatches, widely used for fitness tracking and outdoor activities, can now double as payment devices for contactless transactions at locations that support the payment terminals.

“At EastWest, we are focused on making everyday moments simpler and more seamless for our customers,” said Norman Martin C. Reyes, senior vice president and head of bank marketing and cash management at EastWest. “Whether you’re biking, running, grabbing a quick coffee, or heading out for an errand, you can leave your wallet and phone behind, just tap your watch, and you’re done. It’s one less thing to carry, and one less thing to worry about.”

Expanding EastWest’s Digital Payments Portfolio

Garmin Pay joins EastWest’s growing portfolio of digital payment services, which also includes EastWest Pay and Google Pay for contactless mobile transactions.

According to the bank, offering multiple payment platforms allows customers to choose the option that best fits their devices, lifestyle, and daily routines.

For wearable users, Garmin Pay combines contactless convenience with security features designed to protect payment information. Transactions are processed using tokenized card credentials rather than exposing actual card details during purchases.

Supporting Everyday Contactless Payments

EastWest says the addition of Garmin Pay reflects the ongoing shift toward faster, more flexible digital payment experiences.

“How Filipinos pay continues to evolve, with customers expecting solutions that are fast, flexible, and easy,” said Jerry Ngo, chief executive officer of EastWest. “By enabling both Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards on our digital payment solutions, we are giving our customers greater control and convenience, while continuing to make banking easier and more relevant to their everyday lives.”

Known for its GPS-enabled smartwatches and fitness-focused wearables, Garmin continues to expand the capabilities of its devices beyond health and activity tracking. With Garmin Pay now available for eligible EastWest Visa and Mastercard cardholders, customers have another contactless payment option that integrates directly with their compatible smartwatch.
