Not a lot of Microsoft news today, except this one: the company from Redmond has unveiled a new corporate logo today, something that the company hasn’t done in 25 years. Its last logo change was way back in 1987, when it used the solid, boldfaced italicized logo that has been associated with the brand since, well, forever. This time around, the company has integrated a colorful Windows symbol along with a straightforward, lighter type.
The symbol’s squares of color are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products, according to Jeff Hansen, General Manager, Brand Strategy at Microsoft. He also says that “you’ll see the new Microsoft logo being used prominently. It will be used on Microsoft.com – the 10th most visited website in the world. It is in three of our Microsoft retail stores today (Boston, Seattle’s University Village and Bellevue, Wash.) and will shine brightly in all our stores over the next few months.”
