Research In Motion (RIM) has been struggling in the mobile phone market and the company has recently announced that it will be cutting 5,000 jobs. Not just that, there’s also bad news for BlackBerry fans—the BlackBerry 10 will be delayed until the first quarter of 2013.

The company has supposedly reported a much bigger expected loss than analysts had initially forecast. They’ve scaled back from 10 manufacturing sites to 3 and expect to incur about $350 million in costs for restructuring. With regards to the BlackBerry 10, they’ve made progress on its key features but have had trouble integrating them while the related code for the platform is taking longer than expected.

On the bright side, this means that they’re not compromising the quality and reliability of the platform by delivering it before it’s ready. Reports state that the company is confident that the first BlackBerry 10 releases will be ground-breaking next-generation smartphones.
