We’re all familiar with Sony’s Cyber-shot series of point-and-shoots, and we might have noticed that the company lacked a high-end model in their compact camera range—until now. Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100, which is the first Sony compact that can capture RAW files, a feature usually found on DSLRs. It’s based around a 20-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor and features a 28-100mm equivalent lens with an F1.8-4.9 aperture range as well as image stabilization. It’s capable of shooting videos in 1080p60 and capture 17-megapixel still images at the same time. Another DSLR-like trait the new Cyber-shot will have is its 3:2 aspect ratio sensor. It’s also the first Sony compact camera to feature the company’s WhiteMagic LCD technology that offers a brighter or lower-power display. The DSC-RX100 will be available start in July 2012 at a price of around US $649 (approximately Php 27,200).
