TechnologyTechnology NewsSpotify and Globe introduces Emerge program in PH

Spotify, in partnership with Globe Telecom, has just launched its first Asian artist talent hunt in the Philippines, Emerge. The program, started by Spotify, places local artists in the spotlight and pits them against each other to see who would shine and succeed as the next big OPM act.

Dan Horan, senior advisor for Consumer Business at Globe, said, “The Philippines is home to some of the world’s best artists and performers, and Globe is very happy to be working with Spotify on this program. Spotify Emerge aims to discover music’s next big act and expose the wonderful talents of Filipino musicians to the rest of the world. As the purveyor of the Filipino digital lifestyle where we give customers access to their passions such as music on their devices, we are excited to see Filipinos conquering the centerstage once again using the power of technology with Spotify Emerge.”

Spotify Emerge leverages on Spotify’s pool of data to identify ten emerging artists from the region based on their level of ‘virality’. The winner will be determined through the help of Spotify users via streams, follows, and shares.

The ten rising stars vying for Emerge supremacy in the Philippines are December Avenue, Jeric Medina, Kai Honasan, Kito Romualdez, Marion Aunor, Midnight Meetings, Paolo Valenciano, Save Me Hollywood, Shehyee and The Ransom Collective.

This platform enable users to watch the competition play out on the dedicated Emerge website, which features an engaging graphic timeline where the artists who attract the most attention and listens are placed on a pedestal as a reward. The list of ten up-and-coming acts will be trimmed down each week until a winner is picked.

Notably, past participants of the Emerge program in other countries include the likes of Lorde, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and alt-J. Meanwhile, brands who have collaborated with Spotify Emerge in other markets include Chevrolet and American Family Insurance.

“We’re thrilled to be launching Spotify’s first Emerge program in Asia to the Philippines, our fastest-growing market in the region and a country with a rich history of music talent,” says Chee Meng Tan, director of Label Relations, Spotify (APAC).

“We want to shine a light on the very best emerging artists, giving them a huge global platform to showcase their talent by harnessing Spotify’s unique access to data and technology.”

Globe customers can access Spotify Emerge on the Spotify app, and enjoy it best with Spotify Premium. To register to Spotify Premium, Globe postpaid and prepaid customers can text SP 129 to 8888.

The campaign launches today at ph.spotifyemerge.com where you’ll be able to stream, vote, share, and find out more about the ten music acts involved.
