From the dirt tracks of world rallies and onto Philippine soil is the all-new 2015 Mitsubishi Pajero, the company’s bet to retake the lead in the premium large SUV segment. It’s available in either a 3.8-liter MIVEG Gasoline or 3.2-liter Di-Diesel variants.
On the outside are revamped and aggressive front radiator grille and bumper designs. These are flanked by HID headlamps with automatic intelligent high/low beam controls, LED Daytime Running Lamps, and fog lamps. Its back features a redesigned tailgate, title plate, and spare tire cover, while its wheels are new 18-inch alloys.
Up top is a new sunroof that tilts and slides. This not only gives a very high-class feel, but also provides natural light and ventilation to the Pajero’s interior.
Inside are 7-seats that are covered in either black or beige plush genuine leather. The driver’s seat is 10-way power adjustable, while the passenger’s is 4-way. These are complemented by interior accents of carbon fiber, piano black, and silver.
On the center console is: a multi-information display detailing average fuel consumption, speed, barometer, compass, fuel drive range, temperature outside, date, and time; and a 6.5-inch touchscreen monitor for GPS, reverse camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and multimedia entertainment.
Rounding off the Pajero’s interior is its 4-spoke steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise controls, a fully automatic climate control system, and dedicated rear air conditioner vents.
For passenger safety, the Pajero is equipped with driver and front passenger airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) Body, and side impact beams. The fuel tank is also protected by the vehicle’s axles.
The newest 2015 Pajero will be imported from Japan and besides the standard monotone color options of Sapporo silver, skylark gray, midnight graphite, Rio Grande white, and quartz brown metallic, there will be limited edition two-tone color combinations: Sapporo silver II (skylark gray strip on Sapporo silver) and claysoil beige II (Riviera green strip on claysoil beige).
Even with all the above upgrades and features, the Pajero is more than a bang-for-your-buck premium SUV. It’s priced at PHP 2,500,000 for the GLS 3.8 V6 Gas 4WD, and PHP 2,700,000 for the GLS 3.2 Di-D 4WD – almost the same as the 2014 Pajero.
