Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has announced the release of the Casio Ring Watch CRW-001, the company’s first ring-style digital watch. This exciting innovation employs a newly developed miniature module and advanced metalworking technology to deliver a whole new style of digital watch that is both practical and playful.
In upholding the Casio purpose of bringing new levels of joy to lives one by one through the power to put wonder at hand, the company has created many products that surprise and excite.
The new Casio Ring Watch has its origins in the yubiwa (finger ring) pipe, developed at Kashio Seisakujo, the predecessor of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. The yubiwa pipe proved a big hit, and the profits from it would subsequently be invested in developing a revolutionary calculator. The new watch features the same ring styling, in a nod to the all-new value created by the very first product Casio launched, inspired by original ideas and technologies.
For the Casio Ring Watch CRW-001, the standard watch module is downsized by a factor of approximately ten. It utilizes optimized, high-density mounting and allows for a digital watch small enough to fit on a finger.
Producing a ring-sized, full-metal version of the Casio watch requires the use of metal injection molding (MIM), a method of metal processing in which fine metal powder is injected into molds. The case, case back, and ring are molded in a single piece, faithfully reproducing the Casio watch’s complex form, down to the dimpled design on the band. Employing a glass adhesive technique ensures a tight seal so that the watch is water-resistant while still allowing for a minimalist three-button, ring-sized design for switching between functions.
The ring has an inner diameter of 20mm and a circumference of 62.8mm, fitting a size 22 finger (US 10.5, EU U). Two size-adjusting spacers in size 19 (19mm inner diameter) and 16 (18mm inner diameter) are also included.
Equipped with a 6-digit digital LCD, the Casio Ring Watch CRW-001 displays not only the time down to the second, but also boasts calendar, dual time, and stopwatch functionality. The ring watch gives off a subtle, pulsing glow on the hour and at preset times, eliciting an emotional quality that speaks to the twinkling of time.
Creative and innovative Casio continues adding to its long list of “world-firsts.” It all began with the yubiwa (finger ring) pipe, developed in 1946 at Kashio Seisakujo, the predecessor of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. That revolutionary ring was a big hit at a time, right after World War II, when goods were so scarce that workers smoked their cigarettes down to the very nub. The profits from this huge hit would later contribute to the capital needed to develop a revolutionary calculator.
The Casio Ring Watch CRW-001 is priced at PHP9,660.00 and is available on CASIO PH’s website https://www.casio.com/ph/watches/casio/casio-ring-watch/crw-001/ and at select stores.
