The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – De La Salle Araneta University (JPIA-DLSAU) finally wrapped up their 3-part leadership training entitled: I AM HERE: Breaking Through Excellence, I AM READY: Rising Up to Lead, and I AM INVINCIBLE: Young Leaders Conquering New Heights.
This leadership program was for all the young leaders out there who want to further enhance and even become aware of the skills they possess. The last part of the program was indeed as fruitful as the first two segments of the leadership training. The participants were from over 10 colleges and universities in the National Capital Region (NCR) and outside NCR.
The first talk was given by Axl Rome Flores, the incumbent president of the National Federation of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA). Flores talked about the misconceptions about how time management is more important than energy management even though it is actually the other way around. She also gave her two cents into how the participants can manage their time and energy given that she is also someone who has a lot of duties and responsibilities not just as a leader but also as a daughter, a friend, etc.
The next talk was led by Diana Parangue, the current regional vice president for Communications – North of NFJPIA – NCR. Having a lot of commitments is indeed very stressful without any doubts but as for Ms. Parangue, she said that in order to be “less” stressed, you should not be forcing yourself into doing things that do not make you happy. Only commit to responsibilities that you are willing to do. And if you ever find yourself questioning whether to give up a certain position as a leader, think first about why you started it.
Parangue’s talk was followed by Atty. Ranny Libayan, the man behind BATASnatin and BATASnatin law firm. He said that in order for us to be critical thinkers, we must be able to identify the bigger picture. Do not look into just the one side of the story but also zoom in on the details. He also said that we should not be afraid of asking questions for constant communication and research will lead to a better argument.
Last to give a talk was Atty. Mae Diane Azores, CPA, the 2019 Bar Examinations topnotcher and also an RFBT Reviewer at REO. Atty. Azores tackled conflict resolutions/problem solving. One of her points was to always be mindful of your emotions whenever you are solving a conflict, for as the saying goes, “when emotions are high, intelligence is low.” Therefore, it is very important to always keep calm when you are encountering a dilemma.
Overall, it was an enlightening event. If there’s one general thing that everyone should take note of, it is that you really can’t be a leader if you were never a follower. You cannot lead if you do not know how to follow yourself.
