Sorry Asus, but Acer just stepped up their game and snatched the crown of the world’s thinnest from the UX21’s shiny, aluminium hands – at least according to Acer anyway. The new Aspire S5 is only about 15mm thick at its thickest point, and weighs less than 1.35 kilos. The Aspire S5 sports a 13.3-inch LCD screen and unlike their previous ultrabook, the S3, uses a SSD right off the bat allowing it to post speedy boot times. Speaking of speedy boot times, the S5 is able to post a blazingly fast 1.5 second wake up time via Acer’s Instant On technology. The S5 also uses Acer’s own cloud solution called Acer Always Connect, which allows users to access the information stored in the S5 via their smartphone and other devices. The S5 will be powered by an Intel processor, though which one is still anybody’s guess, though the inclusion of a Thunderbolt port is a strong indication that this will be an Ivy Bridge device. No word on price and availability as of the moment.
