World Vision, a Christian development organization which has years of experience helping Filipino children get access to quality education, recently was enlisted by Smart to identify the school recipients of its mobile digital laboratory, TechnoCart.
The partnership allowed Smart and World Vision to disperse TechnoCart units to 10 public schools across the country. TechnoCart is a 2×2 ft mobile laboratory which contains 20 tablets for students, as well as a laptop, projector, and mobile Wi-Fi for the teacher. Each tablet is preloaded with Batibot, the first mobile application in Filipino that is aligned with the kindergarten curriculum of the Department of Education.
The TechnoCarts were donated to Catmon Integrated School in Malabon; Herminigildo Atienza Elementary School and Ninoy Aquino Elementary School in Tondo, Manila; Patoc Elementary School in Leyte; Salazar Elementary School in Antique; Liloan Central School in Cebu City; Compostela Central School in Cebu; Tudela Central School in West Misamis; Silayan Central School in Zamboanga del Norte; and Maningcol Central School in Ozamis City.
World Vision will also monitor the effects of the donated digital tools and content on students’ learning.
The TechnoCart is among Smart’s many initiatives to use technology to enhance learning. Since the program was launched in June 2015, Smart has distributed TechnoCarts to 30 public schools from as far as Pangasinan in the North and Tawi-Tawi in the South. Seventeen of these units were donated by Smart, while the rest were sponsored by its employees, other individuals, and organizations wanting to help spread the benefits of digital learning to more public schools.
