Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, launched the third generation BMW X5 last night, with an event held at the Manila Polo Club.
“This year, the Boss of all SAV’s is back to assert BMW’s superiority when it comes to executing unmatched joy, whether you’re on or off the road. The all-new BMW X5 is an all-around package designed to meet even the most exacting and varied demands.” said Maricar Parco, ACC President “The reintroduction of the BMW X5 to the Philippine market further showcases our commitment to continue innovations to provide the sheer driving pleasure that is unmistakably BMW. It is for this very reason that BMW remains number one in the segment not only in the Philippines, but in the world as well.”
“First introduced to the global market in 1999 and in the Philippine market in 2002, the BMW X5 is the pioneering vehicle that forever changed the face of the luxury SAV segment. The introduction of this new type of efficient driving dynamics led to others in the market following suit, but none coming close to the original. Over the years, the BMW X5 has continued to evolve into a versatile Sports Activity Vehicle that exudes the same commanding presence as those on top. Like a Boss.” added Parco.
The new BMW X5 has an evolutionary exterior design from its predecessor. Its powerful front fascia with twin circular headlight units extending into the BMW kidney grille and elegantly stretched silhouette, redefine its dominance as the boss of all SAVs. The design optimizes the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties integrated harmoniously into its overall design language, including Air Curtains, Air Breathers and Aero Blades for the rear pillars.
The new BMW X5 is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology (turbocharger with variable inlet geometry, common rail direct injection). The engine is mated with an eight-speed sport automatic gearbox. The engine has an output of 258 hp at 4,000 rpm, and maximum torque of 560 Nm at 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. Its 0 to 100 km/h time is pegged at 6.9 seconds, and top speed is 230 km/h. Other features include Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start Stop function, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, low roll-resistance tires and a variety of weight- and drag-reducing features. It also offers best-in-class aerodynamic design, with its active upper and lower front air flap control, Air Curtains, the Air Breather system, vertical aero blades at the rear window, air deflectors on the front wheel arches and a range of other detail improvements reduce the drag coefficient (Cd).
As compared to the BMW X5’s predecessor, the third generation model has increased spaciousness, airiness and luxurious high quality materials in the interior. The seating position gives the driver a very commanding driving position in a very ergonomic cabin. It has a low-set instrument panel with horizontal lines extending into the door trim and additional trim surface. Furthermore, it has an enhanced interior variability thanks to 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest. Boot capacity is 650 – 1,870 litres. It also has automatic tailgate operation as standard, which can be opened and closed by remote control function. The rear comfort seats can now be moved fore and aft. The backrest angle of the rear seats can also be adjusted based on individual preference.
Aside from the standard specification (priced at PHP6.49M), the new BMW X5 can also be ordered in two other trims — the Experience and Excellence variants (both priced at PHP6.99M) — both enabling an astutely judged level of personalization.
“We at ACC are very proud and excited to reintroduce the Boss of all luxury sports activity vehicles to the Philippine market,” said Parco “With the all-new BMW X5, we are taking luxury and dynamism to a higher level, once again surpassing our own benchmarks and setting a new standard in the luxury SAV segment.”
