Caltex, the petroleum brand marketed by Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), announced that it had begun accepting contactless payment in partnership with Visa payWave last April 20 in Pasig City.
Visa cardholders which are payWave enabled can wave their cards in front of a scanner to pay for their fuel without having to sign receipts or enter their PINs.
Visa cardholders can simply ask their providers to give them a card that is payWave-enabled should they want to make use of this function; the cards feature a distinct “contactless” mark denoted by concentric arcs.
Chevron sees this new payment method as a way to save time and improve the efficiency and convenience of transactions especially in refuelling stations that garner heavy traffic on a daily basis such as along expressways and national roads.
“Motorists gassing up using Visa payWave will definitely be able to experience quicker service in our forecourts. Motorists can transact securely and with easy, knowing that they remain in control of their card at all times,” said CPI country chairman Peter Morris.
payWave improves upon the security of card transactions by minimizing the points in which an account maybe compromised. For transactions of PHP 2,000 and below, customers do not need to sign the receipt or enter their PIN codes.

To kick the partnership, CPI and Visa are holding the “Drive Away a Millionaire” promo running from April 21 to July 31, 2017. Visa cardholders who use payWave to purchase any Caltex fuel (Platinum with Techron, Silver with Techron or Diesel with Techron D) will get a chance to win PHP 1 million in Visa credit. Three motorists may also receive a year’s supply of fuel in the form of Starcash worth PHP 100,000.
Each fuel transaction using payWave entitles motorists to three raffle entries per PHP 500 increment. A Visa contact transaction is equivalent to one raffle entry.
Motorists can also get an instant PHP 50 discount to be deducted outright from their fuel purchase when they use Visa.
