GAC makes the case for the MPV as the new family car

For years, the midsize SUV has been one of the default choices for Filipino families looking for space, versatility, and seven-seat practicality. But as priorities shift toward passenger comfort, easier access, cabin flexibility, everyday convenience, and fuel efficiency, the modern MPV is finding itself back in the conversation.

GAC International Philippines is making that case with an expanded MPV lineup that now includes the all-new GN6, E8 HEV, and flagship GN8 PHEV Executive. Together, the three models cover a wide range of family needs, from a conventional gasoline-powered people mover to hybrid and plug-in hybrid alternatives.

GAC also brings considerable experience to the segment. The company says it has been active in China’s premium MPV market since the 2010s and has delivered more than 880,000 MPVs globally.

Designed around passengers, not just seat count

Seven seats alone do not necessarily make a family vehicle practical. Entry and exit, second- and third-row comfort, and how well the cabin accommodates passengers of different ages can matter just as much as overall capacity.

This is where the MPV format has an advantage. Compared with many traditional SUVs, MPVs generally offer lower step-in heights, flatter floors, and easier access to the rear cabin, which can be useful for young children, older passengers, or anyone frequently getting in and out.

The GAC E8 HEV illustrates that approach with a low step-in height and, on the GX variant, power-sliding doors. Its three-row cabin is designed to provide generous passenger space for everyday commuting, school runs, airport trips, and longer journeys.

Flexible cabins for changing family needs

A family vehicle can carry very different loads depending on the day, from children and groceries to luggage, sports equipment, or balikbayan boxes. GAC addresses that with flexible seating and cargo configurations across its MPV range.

The all-new GN6, for example, has third-row seats that fold flat into the floor, expanding cargo capacity to as much as 1,100 liters. The E8 HEV goes further with its Magic Storage seating system, which offers 18 configurations, including a Tea Break Mode that turns the rear area into an outdoor lounge-style setup.

The idea is not simply to provide more space, but to make that space easier to reconfigure as family needs change.

Comfort extends beyond the front seats

For families that spend long hours in traffic or on road trips, rear-seat comfort increasingly matters as much as the driver’s seat. GAC brings several premium features into the second row of its higher-end MPVs.

The GN8 PHEV Executive features Zero Breeze Air Conditioning, which uses more than 1,600 micro-vents to distribute cool air more gently throughout the cabin. Both the E8 HEV GX and GN8 PHEV Executive also offer second-row One-Touch Zero Gravity captain’s seats with power leg rests, ventilation, and massage functions.

The GN8 PHEV Executive also connects with the GAC app, adding a layer of connected functionality to its premium positioning.

Technology makes large vehicles easier to manage

Modern MPVs also rely increasingly on driver-assistance and camera systems to make their size less intimidating in urban environments. The GN6 combines a 360-degree HD camera system with a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to help improve situational awareness in tight streets, parking areas, and school drop-off zones.

Powertrain choice is another part of the practicality equation. The GN6 uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, while the E8 HEV combines a 2.0-liter hybrid system with a claimed driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers on a full tank.

At the top of the range, the GN8 PHEV Executive pairs premium MPV features with a 2.0-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain and a claimed combined driving range of up to 1,032 kilometers.

Three approaches to family mobility

The GN6, E8 HEV, and GN8 PHEV Executive give buyers different entry points depending on budget, preferred powertrain, and desired level of comfort.

The all-new GAC GN6 GX carries a suggested retail price of PHP1,298,000, with an introductory price of PHP1,198,000. The GAC E8 HEV GL is listed at PHP1,858,000, with an introductory price of PHP1,778,000, while the E8 HEV GX is priced at PHP1,998,000, or PHP1,918,000 during the introductory period.

The GAC GN8 PHEV Executive sits at the top of the range with a suggested retail price of PHP3,488,000 and an introductory price of PHP3,338,000. Reservations at these introductory prices are available until September 30, 2026.

Backed by GAC’s local support network

GAC Philippines says the lineup is supported by a nationwide network of 30 dealerships, a dedicated parts warehouse, and two years of free roadside assistance.

Warranty coverage varies by powertrain. ICE models, including the GN6, carry a five-year or 150,000km warranty, whichever comes first. HEV and PHEV models such as the E8 and GN8 receive a five-year or 150,000km basic warranty, plus eight years or 150,000km of coverage for the power battery, driving motor, and motor control unit.

For families considering a move away from the traditional SUV, GAC’s expanded MPV range offers three distinct ways to approach the same basic need: carrying people more comfortably, flexibly, and efficiently.
