Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has welcomed the issuance of the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) Executive Order, describing it as an important step toward accelerating vehicle electrification and strengthening the Philippine automotive industry.
In support of the government program, MMPC said it will participate through Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s PHP7-billion investment in the local production of hybrid electric vehicles. The planned manufacturing program is expected to expand domestic automotive capabilities while supporting the country’s transition toward more sustainable transportation.
Supporting local vehicle manufacturing
“Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation welcomes the issuance of the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy Executive Order, which marks an important milestone in advancing vehicle electrification and strengthening the automotive industry in the Philippines,” said Noriaki Hirakata, chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation.
“Backed by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s PHP7-billion investment commitment, we are ready to support the government’s vision through the local production of hybrid electric vehicles, further enhancing the country’s manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness.”
The planned production of hybrid vehicles marks a new phase in MMPC’s longstanding operations in the Philippines. According to the company, the investment can help expand local manufacturing, encourage further development of the automotive supply chain, and create opportunities across the broader automotive ecosystem.
Building on electrification experience
Mitsubishi Motors has developed electrified vehicle technologies over several decades, with its global experience informing the company’s approach to practical and sustainable mobility. MMPC said its electrification efforts continue to be guided by the brand’s established principles of quality, reliability, durability, and safety.
“Mitsubishi Motors has a long history of developing electrified vehicle technologies, with decades of global experience in delivering innovative mobility solutions,” Hirakata said. “Our expertise in electrification is guided by the same principles that define the Mitsubishi Motors brand: quality, reliability, durability, and safety, giving customers confidence and peace of mind in every vehicle they drive.”
Supporting economic and industry growth
Beyond vehicle production, MMPC expects the investment to contribute to employment, skills development, supplier activity, and the continued growth of local automotive manufacturing.
“Through this investment, we look forward to creating greater value for the Philippine economy, supporting the country’s sustainability objectives, generating opportunities across the automotive ecosystem, and contributing to the continued growth of local vehicle manufacturing,” Hirakata added.
MMPC began operating in the Philippines in 1963 and currently manufactures vehicles at its facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The company said it will continue working with the government, industry stakeholders, and local communities to support sustainable mobility and strengthen the Philippines’ position as an automotive manufacturing hub.
