Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation unveiled the new Montero Sport last October 4 at Okada Manila.
The new Montero Sport now has a bolder and tougher look thanks to the new front design. Mitsubishi has brought the Dynamic Shield Front design from the Expander and adapted it to the beefier Montero Sport. Aside from the from the front, Mitsubishi has also slightly changed the rear, with new rear bumpers and shortened rear tail lights. Mitsubishi has also equipped it with a new power tailgate with hands-free functionally via a sensor underneath the bumper.
Under the hood, the 2020 model of the Montero Sport is a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s capable of about 179 hp and 430 Nm of torque.
The interior is where Mitsubishi really changed the Montero Sport. The Japanese manufacturer has fitted the new Montero Sport with a new floor, and an AC outlet in the second row. Mitsubishi has also equipped the new with a new 8-inch infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto support. Mitsubishi has also equipped the mid-sized SUV with a new 8-inch LCD display on the driver’s console.
For safety, Mitsubishi has equipped the new Montero Sport with new features such as Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert features which alerts the driver of oncoming vehicles from their blind side. Aside from the two it also has hill start assist, and hill descent control, a multi-view camera system and airbags.
The 4WD variant of the Montero Sport will also support a special smartphone app that could control the car via Bluetooth.
The new Montero will initially come in four variants with the GT 2WD and GLS 2WD initially available. The two other models will come in a later date. The new Montero Sport will also come in seven color options including white diamond, sterling silver metallic, titanium gray, medium red, and jet black.
