Xiaomi EV has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of SkyNomad, the brand’s second vehicle series. While the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 Series were designed with the driving experience in mind, the new SkyNomad Series shifts its focus to the people inside, creating an intelligent SUV that transforms its cabin into a flexible living space.

The launch represents the next stage of Xiaomi EV’s portfolio, offering a different approach to electric mobility based on how people actually use their vehicles throughout the day.

An SUV designed for modern lifestyles

According to Xiaomi, today’s SUV buyers are no longer choosing vehicles based solely on cabin size or seating comfort. Increasingly, the priority is whether occupants feel comfortable and at ease during the many different ways they use their vehicles.

Whether commuting for hours, taking a break between meetings, working remotely from a parked vehicle, heading out on family road trips, or spending weekends camping, many owners now view their cars as an extension of their living space rather than simply a mode of transportation.

That evolving use case became the foundation for the SkyNomad project, which began development in early 2023.

Built around a reconfigurable cabin

The SkyNomad Series is built on Xiaomi’s new Kunlun Architecture, a platform developed specifically to enable a more adaptable interior.

Its flat floor and long-track seating system allow the cabin to be reconfigured for different scenarios, from carrying passengers, luggage, and pets to creating a workspace, lounge, or family activity area when parked.

Xiaomi says achieving this level of flexibility required combining artificial intelligence, the company’s smart-device ecosystem, and advanced manufacturing capabilities into a single vehicle platform.

“Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you,” said Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, in a post describing the development of SkyNomad.

One SUV for work, family, and everyday life

Rather than targeting a single type of buyer, Xiaomi designed the SkyNomad Series for people whose daily routines constantly change.

The SUV is intended to serve commuters, professionals, and families alike, adapting throughout the day as users transition between work, travel, and leisure.

Xiaomi says the SkyNomad Series will launch soon in mainland China following more than three and a half years of development, with additional details to be announced at a later date.

In Summary

With SkyNomad, Xiaomi is taking a different direction from traditional SUV design by prioritizing adaptable interior space over conventional vehicle specifications. Built on the new Kunlun Architecture, the upcoming electric SUV is designed to function as both transportation and a flexible living environment, reflecting the growing role vehicles play in work, family life, and recreation.
