Public launch to be held tomorrow at 2015 Manila International Auto Show.
Kia’s exclusive Philippine distributor, Columbian Autocar Corporation, yesterday announced that it will be bringing ashore the overhauled Grand Carnival and next-generation Sorento. Present during the media preview were CAC president Ginia Domingo, Kia Motors Corporation global marketing and PR manager So Jeung Hyun, and KMC senior designer Kim Sung Joong.
2015 Kia Grand Carnival
If there’s one word to describe the Grand Carnival, it would be “big”. It has a 3,060mm long wheelbase and dimensions of 5,115 x 1,985 x 1,755mm (L x W x H), meaning it has all the space inside for up to 7-passengers and cargo of all shapes and sizes.
While not being used as a powerhouse mover, the Kia Grand Carnival boasts of various creature comforts and tech for the convenience of passengers. On its wide, horizontal-slanted center console is a 3.5-inch OLED multi-information display; auto light control; active eco system controls for engine, transmission, and climate; and a multimedia system with AUX and USB ports.
Its cabin is also divided into three independent climate sections so passengers can adjust temperatures as they see fit. USB charger outlets, cooling glove box, 6-speaker sound system, and sunroof are also all standard. The interior is wrapped in chrome and wood accents, as well as grey two-tone leather seats.
The latest Grand Carnival is powered by a 2.2L in-line, 4-cylinder, CRDi diesel engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger and intercooler capable of producing 200Ps @ 3800rpm and 45kgm of torque @ 1750 to 2750rpm. The power plant is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with sport mode. Cradling the power plant is a body made out of high strength steel in colors clear white, snow white pearl, bright silver, platinum graphite, aurora black, and titanium brown.
2015 Kia Sorento
The third generation Sorento features the same sleek design and premium interior, but with a longer body, shorter height, extra width, and of course, a more powerful engine. The long hood makes a comeback along with the wide D-pillar with a lower roofline, higher beltline, and swept-back form. Its 3D diamond patterned tiger-nose grille just screams “look at me!”
Inside is a design philosophy that makes the cabin look even wider than it actually is. A 3.5-inch mono LCD multi-information screen; a variety of multimedia options; steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio, and multi-function controls; and dual zone full auto climate control are just some of the advanced tech the Sorento offers passengers. Complementing these are soft-touch leather seats and high-quality trim around the dashboard and doors.
Meanwhile, the Sorento’s engine is a 2.2L in-line, 4-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve CRDi diesel engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger able to produce 200Ps of power @ 3800rpm and 45kgm of torque @ 1750 to 2750rpm. Mated to a 6-speed AT with Shiftronic Feature and a Dynamax all-wheel drive system, the Sorento can safely go across any and all land terrain. Its shell structure improves dampening of noise, vibration, and harshness, and comes in the following colors: silky silver, imperial bronze, aurora black, metal stream, snow white pearl, sunset red, platinum graphite, and clear white.
