BRON ADDS IPROOV FACE SCAN FOR WALLET RECOVERY

TechnologyCybersecurityBRON ADDS IPROOV FACE SCAN FOR WALLET RECOVERY

Digital asset platform Bron has launched FaceScan, a new wallet recovery feature powered by iProov’s Dynamic Liveness technology.

The feature is designed for users who lose access to their passkeys or devices. Instead of relying on a seed phrase or third party to reset access, FaceScan uses a facial scan to confirm that the person attempting recovery is the same person who originally set up the account.

ADDRESSING A SELF-CUSTODY RECOVERY PROBLEM

Self-custody gives users direct control over their digital assets rather than placing those assets with a third-party custodian. That control can also create a recovery challenge if a user loses a device or credentials.

Unlike many traditional online accounts, a self-custodial wallet may not have a centralized provider that can simply reset a password and restore access.

Bron positions FaceScan as another way to address that problem while maintaining the user’s control over the wallet.

DYNAMIC LIVENESS CONFIRMS GENUINE PRESENCE

FaceScan uses iProov’s Dynamic Liveness technology to verify that a real person is present in front of the camera and that the person matches the individual who originally set up the account.

According to iProov, its technology is designed to protect against attempts to impersonate users, including attacks involving manipulated or synthetic imagery.

“Account recovery has always been the hardest problem in self-custody,” said Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov. “Losing your device or credentials shouldn’t mean you lose access to what belongs to you.”

Bud said the system is designed to provide a recovery option that does not depend on a seed phrase or another person being available.

FACESCAN SITS ALONGSIDE GUARDIAN RECOVERY

FaceScan does not replace Bron’s existing Guardian recovery system.

Under Guardian recovery, users nominate two trusted contacts who can help confirm their identity when account recovery is needed. Users can configure FaceScan, Guardian recovery, or both methods depending on their preference.

That gives users a choice between biometric recovery and a trusted-contact approach rather than relying on a single recovery mechanism.

FaceScan is available globally across supported devices and operating systems.

RECOVERY WITHOUT AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT OR SEED PHRASE

Bron says FaceScan can confirm that the person recovering the wallet is the same person who originally created it without requiring an identity document.

“The industry has spent years pretending that losing everything is an acceptable price to pay for self-custody. It isn’t,” said Dmitry Tokarev, founder of Bron.

“The challenge has always been making recovery possible without reintroducing the very third-party dependency that self-custody is designed to remove.”

Tokarev said FaceScan is intended to confirm continuity between account setup and recovery without requiring Bron to know the user’s real-world identity or take custody of the assets.

BUILT AROUND SELF-CUSTODY

Bron is a self-custodial digital wealth platform built for individuals, families, and businesses.

The platform uses Multi-Party Computation technology and is designed to remove reliance on traditional seed phrases while combining self-custody with recovery, privacy, governance, and financial controls.

Users can manage digital assets, connect to third-party providers of tokenized assets and fiat-to-digital currency conversion, and set access, approval, and transaction controls while retaining control of their assets.

Bron states that it does not custody, transmit, exchange, or otherwise control user funds.

BIOMETRICS MEET DIGITAL ASSET SECURITY

The FaceScan launch brings biometric identity assurance into a part of digital asset security where recovery has traditionally involved trade-offs between convenience, control, and recoverability.

For Bron, the objective is to provide users with an additional recovery path without changing the self-custodial structure of the wallet. For iProov, the integration extends its liveness technology into digital asset account recovery, where verifying that a genuine account holder is physically present can become part of the security process.
