Various government agencies including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Science and Technology(DOST), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), are partnering with private corporations and organizations such as Distributed Ledger Technology Association of the Philippines (DLTAP) and FinTech Philippines Association (FPH) for the first-ever Philippine Fintech Festival.

The two-day event, which features plenary sessions and exciting activities, will tackle three major tracks: the future of finance, transforming industries, and blockchain for enterprise. Other highlights include hackathon, business matching, lightning round pitches from startups and fintech companies judged by industry leaders, and awarding ceremony for the top and innovative companies from Southeast Asia.

With telecommunication companies and traditional banks participating in the growing digital economy by offering millions of access to formal credit products, SMEs, farmers, and consumers are now being given alternative finance options. The continuous trend in modernizing remittances, creation of mobile wallets, and the use of cryptocurrencies cite how fintech companies and products have largely contributed to the government’s relentless drive for financial inclusion.

“We strongly believe that this is a pivotal moment for us to become more relevant and competitive in the global marketplace. DTI has always been supportive of the growing fintech industry because of its massive potential for financial inclusivity for our people. With all the work and tech innovation building up in the country in recent years, we are ready to expand our horizons,” shared Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Dr. Rafaelita “Fita” Aldaba.

Aiming to empower enterprises in the digital revolution, the Philippine Fintech Festival features key-players in the industry. It will be held from May 20 to 21, 2020 at the Shangri-La at The Fort.
