Smartphone companies never fail to surprise us with exciting new upgrades to their products and believe me when I tell you that I was most surprised about vivo. The vivo X80 Pro is a game-changer that can hold its own against other flagships out there.

    Design: 5/5

When I received the package from vivo, it was a fun unboxing experience for me. Everything about it looked luxurious, from the packaging to the actual phone. Taking the vivo x80 Pro out of its box, the demo unit came in Cosmic Black and it looked sleek and out of the ordinary. It was packaged with the usual information packet and warranty card, sim ejector pin, earphones, phone case, and charger.

The vivo x80 Pro has a stunning curved 6.7 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s not as thin and lightweight as other vivo smartphones but it’s not much of an issue for me. This smartphone has an aluminum frame and glass front and back that still feels sturdy, although it doesn’t have Gorilla Glass. Its power button and volume buttons are on the right side of the phone, the sim card tray is at the bottom alongside the USB-C charging port, and speakers, the fingerprint sensor is embedded on the screen. At the front is the selfie camera and at the back is the quad camera attached to a slightly raised rectangular plate.

    Hardware: 5/5

The vivo x80 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon and runs on the Android 12/Funtouch 12 operating system. Although it doesn’t have a dedicated SD card slot, the demo unit we have has 256GB internal storage and 12GB RAM. Its battery is a whopping 4700mAh with a USB-C 80W that charges your battery to 100% in under 40 minutes.

vivo’s camera department has been exceptional, bringing in Zeiss to its game, so the vivo x80 Pro produces phenomenal photos and videos. The front camera features 32MP HDR that can also capture 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 30fps, while the rear main lens is 50MP partnered with a 48MP ultrawide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP periscope lens.

    User Experience: 4/5

I was in so much awe when I got to try the vivo x80 Pro, as everything was extraordinary. The camera is superb, producing HD photos and videos as if taken with a professional camera. Although the bokeh effect didn’t do much for me and the 5x zoom didn’t really magnify that much, the rear and ultrawide lens took exceptional photos in different lighting conditions. The colors were precise and the details were sharp, although zooming in diminishes sharpness. One of my favorites is taking portrait pictures, where the focus was unbelievable compared to other smartphones in the same price range. Shooting a video in 4K resolution resulted in an almost cinematic effect, and just like the photos, the colors came out sharp and crisp, with very detailed images even in low-light settings.

Performance-wise, the vivo X80 Pro didn’t disappoint. Gaming was such a fun experience for me. I tested out my favorite games — Call of Duty Mobile and League of Legends: Wild Rift — which turned out all right. Audio was loud without the earphones plugged in, but with occasional crackling sounds. Gaming at high-quality settings, the graphics were smooth and crisp. In medium to low-quality, gaming was okay, and the pixels were very visible but didn’t affect performance. There were minor overheating issues while playing, but I didn’t experience any crashing or lagging.

    Value: 3/5

Priced at PHP59,999, the vivo X80 Pro is a bit expensive. However, if you’re invested in mobile photography, this smartphone is probably one of the best options in the market right now. It produces great photos and videos, and its overall performance is worth the price.
