Niantic Labs, the same developer of the widely popular Pokémon Go, is set to produce a Harry Potter-inspired AR game.
According to the reports, the mobile game app will be named as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite which is co-developed by Warner Bros. Interactive and its new brand, the aptly named Portkey Games. Niantic confirmed the news, stating, “With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.”
Just like what Pokemon Go does, the game will also allow people to experience both digital and real world by letting them to collect boosts, defend locations, and explore their environment. In Wizards Unite, players will fight “legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies” which could involve Voldemort and other villains in the movie. Harry Potter’s magical elements mixing in with the Muggle world is already a theme in the books and movies, so everyone can expect to see that reappear now in AR form.
Niantic will announce more details about the game in 2018. Stay tuned, Potterheads!
