BlackBerry will not be bringing any more smartphones to Japan

TechnologyTechnology NewsBlackBerry will not be bringing any more smartphones to Japan

News out of the wires today is that BlackBerry will no longer be bringing smartphones to Japan. According to a Reuters report, the company will now forgo selling their devices in the land of the rising sun, saying that it cannot justify localizing their latest OS because of extremely limited demand in the country. A report in the Nikkei Business Daily said that the company’s current market share in Japan is only 0.5 percent, which shrank from 5 percent last year. If you’re one of the few BlackBerry faithful in Japan, don’t despair – while the company may be pulling out of the country, they’ve said that they’ll still support existing BlackBerry customers in the country. We’re sure Japanese consumers aren’t going to be too bummed out – they do get all the latest toys before the rest of the world does anyway.
