Facebook recently announced an update to its news feed that will automatically play embedded videos as you scroll through the screen.

It’s similar to how videos show up on Facebook-owned Instagram. As you scroll through, videos start playing automatically, though the difference is that the videos are muted by default. If you want to hear sound or watch in full screen, simply click on the video.

In a blog post, Facebook said that adding auto-play to the news feed gives an “easier way to watch videos on Facebook,” with the content coming to life as you scroll, but if you don’t want to watch, just scroll past.

Auto-play videos will start showing up on Facebook’s mobile apps in the coming weeks. It will first work on the Pages of bands and musicians, as well as individual accounts, and verified Pages. There are no auto videos from advertisers for now, though “over time, we’ll continue to explore how to bring this to marketers in the future,” Facebook said.
