    As the Internet of Things (IoT) phenomenon becomes more and more mainstream, Globe Labs along with JumpSparc and Microsoft will be teaching students, professionals, hardware and software enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs how to make the IoT transition quicker and easier.

    IoT promises to innovate customer experience by allowing objects embedded with communications technology to transfer data over a network, helping them “talk” with each other.  For example, car sensors can notify the driver if the vehicle’s condition is alarmingly dangeorus; a washing machine’s status can be accessed via Wi-Fi; and your package or delivery can be tracked anywhere in the world in real time.

    The IOT Bootcamp will run until April 19 and is conducted at the Globe Telepark, Valero Street in Makati City. It will focus not just on the technical aspects of product development but also into the business and human-centered design side.  Experts in different fields will be facilitating discussions.

    “Globe Labs wants to help facilitate the discovery of products that genuinely help people and solve problems, assist in validating their ideas, and develop the social and selling skills of the participants.  What better way to do this than to collaborate with Microsoft Corporation using their Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform and with JumpSparc, a company which advocates the do-it-yourself electronics and robotics culture and is an expert on bootcamps,” said Anne Michelle Santos, Globe Labs project manager for digital media.

    Elymar Apao, co-founder of Jumpsparc adds, “Imagine a Disneyland for electronic enthusiasts and hardware entrepreneurs. That’s what we do. We provide access to the hardware as well as the educational experience.”

    Microsoft, on the other hand, is looking to help organizations build IoT-focused infrastructures by providing a set of integrated Microsoft’s Azure cloud services designed to shorten deployment times and lessen management hassles.

    The bootcamp will have sessions discussing product conceptualization and design; code and hardware walkthrough, home application, and presentation pitch practice; basic electronics and intro to sensors, motors and hardware interfacing; power supplies and interfacing isolated systems; and physical and aesthetic design and projecting potential income. It will culminate in a Maker/IoT hackathon to demonstrate what the participants have learned from the sessions.
