At a recent event held to give the members of the press an idea of how 2014 was for the company, Intel spoke about the changing face of computing. The world no longer just has single devices with a rudimentary connection to the rest of the world. People now carry multiple devices, each with their own strengths, allowing people to be connected 24/7, wherever they might find themselves.
Computing as we know it is transforming, as we move away from a world of screens and devices to one of immersive experiences.
2015 will continue this trend, with Intel projecting that 2015 will be an even stronger year for hybrids. With Intel’s continued focus on research, and incorporating Moore’s Law right into the company’s vision, we’re going to see a world full of devices that have more power than ever before, in device sizes that are more and more convenient for users.
Parallel to this, the Internet of Things will start to take off, with consumers embracing the different technologies as they become available.
“Consumers will embrace the Internet of Things (IoT), but they won’t know it as that,’ says Genevieve Bell, vice president, Intel Labs; Intel Fellow and director of User Experience Research. “The challenge, as with all technology, is to explain it as clearly and simply as possible, while alleviating any concerns, such as privacy and security. However, those concerns will not stop people from dipping their toes in the water as far as the IoT is concerned.”
The smarter devices being used in 2015 will also become easier to use, tailored to our individual needs, and we’ll see the emergence of new form factors, capabilities and experiences, such as wearables and 3D imaging, driving innovation and making the Era of Integration a desirable future for all involved. What’s more, we’ll also see businesses and consumers begin to embrace the world of robotics, as we see continued development in 3D printing.
Intel is at the forefront of this change. With processors that get smaller and smaller, at the same time becoming more powerful and more efficient, theirs will be the technology that will drive the future.
