Gaming hardware company Razer Inc. just acquired smartphone company Nextbit Systems, Inc., the manufacturer and distributor of the Nextbit Robin.
According to an official blog post from the company’s website written by Nextbit CEO and co-founder Tom Moss, the company has been acquired by Razer, but will operate as an independent division within the company.
Moss added that the company will be “doing exactly what we’ve been doing all along, only bigger and better.”
Nextbit Systems is known for its affordable Robin smartphone (USD 299 as of writing) which is uniquely designed and integrated with the company’s own Android-based OS that gives emphasis to Cloud-synchronization and continuous usage-based adaptation.
The company has ceased sales of the Robin and its accessories through its official channels. Nextbit will, however, be continuing to honor warranties for six months more and will provide software updates until February 2018.
Razer has yet to release an official statement on the acquisition.
