Korean tech giant Samsung announced that they had signed a long-term broad cross-licensing deal with Google. The said agreement will cover both firms’ existing patents and those who are yet to be filed for the next 10 years.

Head of Samsung’s intellectual property center, Ahn Seung-Ho, stated “Samsung and Google are showing the rest of the industry that there is more to gain from cooperating than engaging in unnecessary patent disputes.”

Since Samsung smartphones run on Google’s operating system, Android, this patent deal would surely develop into collaboration of 2 tech giants in coming up with latest innovations.

“By working together on agreements like this, companies can reduce the potential for litigation and focus instead on innovation,” said Allen Lo, deputy general counsel for patents of Google.
