Seagate Technology announced three new high-capacity and best performance hard disk drives with the introduction of the 5mm thin Seagate Laptop Ultrathin HDD, the Seagate Video 3.5 HDD, and the custom-built Seagate NAS HDD—all aimed at addressing consumers’ evolving storage needs.
The Laptop Ultrathin HDD has a width of 5mm, as thin as four stacked credit cards, and weighs a mere 3.3oz, which is lighter than a deck of cards. It is designed to be integrated into ultra-thin, lightweight mobile computing devices and tablets, delivering high capacity storage at an affordable price.
It delivers up to 500GB of capacity in 25 percent less space than its previous-generation 7mm counterpart, freeing up valuable real-estate within portable devices to accommodate additional designed-in features such as longer-life batteries and better air circulation.
Industry’s First 4TB Video HDD
The Video 3.5 HDD is the industry’s first 4TB, 3.5-inch HDD that’s engineered specifically for use in video applications. It is engineered to deliver superior performance and operation in three key areas of importance to manufacturers—high capacity and streaming capability, reliability, and acoustics.
It can store up to 480 hours of high-definition content making it the industry’s highest-capacity drive specifically for video. The drive also supports up to 16 simultaneous HD streams or 20 standard-definition streams as well as 24×7 operation capabilities, making it ideal for video content applications.
Cutting-edge, custom-built NAS HDD
The NAS HDD is engineered with performance and reliability in mind. The new drives are available in multiple capacity points, including a 4TB option—the industry’s highest capacity NAS HDD solution available in the market with strong industry support from nine NAS system partners.
The NAS HDD is built to provide up to 10 percent performance advantage for 24×7 NAS applications and boasts near silent acoustics operating below the range of audible sound for the human ear with as low as 1.9 bels, providing optimised acoustics for the home or business environment. It also features Seagate’s own NASWorks technology which improves drive reliability and performance by supporting features that limit drive vibrations and support extended error recovery controls for better data integrity.
