SlashGear reports that there are now 50,304 apps available in Windows Store, based on the app count in MetroStore Scanner.

The same source states that in the month of March alone, there have been 279 apps developed daily, and that the resurgence of app development for Windows 8 after its decline in February is possibly due to the USD 100 cash incentive Microsoft is offering for each app developed for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8. The said offer runs from March 8 to June 30, and only 10,000 apps will be accepted.

Windows Store still has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to compete against the Apple App Store and Google Play, but it’s exciting to see that the Microsoft app market is undergoing gradual growth.
