For Filipino families, severe weather is not a rare emergency but a recurring reality. According to PAGASA, an average of 20 tropical cyclones enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility each year, making disaster preparedness an essential part of everyday life.

When storms disrupt power, transportation, and essential services, communication becomes an immediate concern. Families need to reach loved ones, confirm their safety, receive updates, and call for assistance when necessary.

Recognizing the importance of connectivity during emergencies, PLDT Home is strengthening its year-round preparedness strategy through network resilience, proactive customer communication, satellite broadband support, and on-ground assistance.

The company is reinforcing network infrastructure and redundancy, identifying areas that may require priority support, and preparing PLDT At Your Service booths for deployment before, during, and after severe weather events.

Using data to guide preparedness

PLDT Home has identified three focus areas to guide its network response and after-sales support based on urgency, recovery requirements, and historical weather data.

Calamity-affected areas are locations still recovering from severe storms in 2025, where service restoration and customer assistance remain priorities. Customers in these communities may visit the nearest PLDT Store for after-sales assistance, account support, and access to charging stations.

Priority connectivity areas are communities recently affected by natural disasters where focused deployments can help accelerate customer support. Residents may visit PLDT Stores or PLDT At Your Service booths for connectivity assistance, free calls, free WiFi, charging, and after-sales service.

At-risk areas cover 12 cities identified through PLDT data as having been repeatedly affected by severe weather over the past two years, particularly between August and December. PLDT Home says heightened readiness protocols will be implemented in these areas to support faster response and service continuity.

“In every storm we’ve responded to, the first thing people ask for is a signal. They want to call home and hear that everyone is safe. That is what we are doing our best to protect,” said Menardo “Butch” Jimenez Jr., chief operating officer and chief technology officer of PLDT.

“At PLDT Home, we understand that connectivity is not a convenience. It is the thread that holds families together. We refuse to be caught unprepared. For us, readiness means being there to help protect Filipinos’ lives before, during, and after a storm,” he added.

Preparing the network before storms arrive

PLDT Home’s operational preparations begin before a typhoon makes landfall. Its readiness strategy focuses on strengthening the network, preparing field teams, and helping customers understand where they can seek assistance during service disruptions.

The company is reinforcing infrastructure and redundancy in high-risk areas to minimize outages. When a network path or facility is affected, backup routes and systems can help maintain services.

Satellite broadband may also be deployed in calamity-affected locations to provide temporary connectivity and support service restoration.

These added layers of network support can be particularly important during emergencies, when families depend on communications services for weather updates, coordination, and access to assistance.

Keeping customers informed

Customer communication forms another part of PLDT Home’s preparedness strategy.

Subscribers in areas undergoing service restoration may receive SMS advisories containing network updates, available support channels, and information about nearby locations offering assistance.

Providing timely information can help customers understand the status of their service and determine where they can access connectivity, charging, and account support.

On-ground assistance through PLDT At Your Service

During calamities, PLDT At Your Service teams may be deployed to affected communities as one-stop support hubs for existing and prospective subscribers.

Immediately after a disaster, the booths can provide free WiFi, calls, and charging stations. These services are intended to help residents contact family members, give updates to loved ones, and reach emergency or customer-support channels.

As communities move from immediate response toward recovery, the booths may expand their services to include customer support and connectivity assistance.

Where available, PLDT At Your Service teams may also offer free installation, speed-boost promotions, and 24-hour quick installation to help households restore or establish connectivity.

Supporting connected and resilient communities

The preparedness program supports the PLDT Group’s #KonektedforResilience advocacy, which focuses on helping communities remain connected during emergencies and disasters.

Customers may seek assistance through PLDT At Your Service booths, nearby PLDT Stores, or direct support from field teams deployed in affected areas.

By reinforcing its network before storms arrive and preparing multiple customer-support channels, PLDT Home aims to reduce service disruptions and help families stay connected when communication matters most.

In Summary

PLDT Home is strengthening its year-round disaster preparedness through network redundancy, satellite broadband support, proactive SMS advisories, and on-ground assistance.

The company has identified calamity-affected, priority connectivity, and at-risk areas to guide its response. During severe weather events, PLDT At Your Service booths may provide free WiFi, calls, charging, customer assistance, and other connectivity services to affected communities.
