New names appear frequently in the television industry, but not every change signals a meaningful improvement in picture quality. TCL is positioning SQD MiniLED as more than a branding update, bringing together more precise light control, richer color performance, and improved filtering in its latest display platform.
The introduction comes as TCL strengthens its position in the global television market. According to Omdia, the brand ranked first worldwide in 2025 shipment market share for televisions measuring 75 inches and above, as well as Mini LED TVs. It also led global Google TV shipments from 2021 to 2025.
“TCL’s mission has always been to make advanced technology accessible while continuing to push the boundaries of what display products can do. Whether in the home, or wearable devices, we see our display products as the interface between people and the digital world,” said Daniel Sun, chief technology officer at TCL Industries.
Three technologies at the core
SQD MiniLED is built around three key advancements, beginning with Precise Dimming. The system combines upgraded light-emitting chips, next-generation micro-lens technology, a Micro-OD design, and advanced light-control algorithms to improve backlight control.
Working together, these elements are designed to reduce halo interference while producing higher brightness, better uniformity, improved dark-scene performance, and smoother motion. The reduced optical distance also allows for a slimmer television profile.
Super QLED builds on this by extending the display’s color performance. TCL reports a 33% wider color gamut, 17% higher color purity, and 45% blue-light energy optimization, resulting in richer color reproduction and a more comfortable viewing experience.
Completing the platform is the Ultra Color Filter, developed through upgraded materials and a refined process spanning five years. Using particles measuring less than five nanometers, the filter is designed to reduce color impurities and reproduce colors more accurately on screen.
X11L showcases the platform
The TCL X11L serves as the flagship implementation of SQD MiniLED, bringing the platform’s dimming, color, and filtering technologies together in one premium television. TCL describes it as the world’s first SQD-Mini LED flagship.
The X11L also received the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award at the GTB Awards during CES 2026. Founded by International Data Group and supported by IDC, the awards recognize developments in consumer electronics and display technology.
As consumers move toward larger screens and higher picture-quality expectations, TCL sees SQD MiniLED as the next stage of its premium television strategy. Rather than focusing on a name change alone, the platform aims to improve the fundamentals of the viewing experience through more precise light control and richer color reproduction.
