ASUS has been synonymous with solid, cutting edge design and innovation when it comes to motherboards. With Intel’s new X79 chipset coming soon (and we mean really soon) it wasn’t surprising that the company already had a couple of motherboards ready to go when the new processors landed. We’ll be highlighting three new ASUS motherboards throughout the day that uses the new chipset, and we’ll be starting with the company’s mainstream board series – the P9X79.
The P9X79 comes in three flavors – Standard, Deluxe and Pro. Aside from a few features being cut out from the Pro and Standard model, all three boards are nearly identical. The three boardsuse ASUS’ UEFI graphical user interface for configuring the BIOS, which means you’ll actually be able to understand what the settings do in your BIOS without feeling like a complete idiot. New, Dual Intelligent Processors 3 architecture featuring ASUS’ latest DIGI+ Power and new Digi+ DRAM technology make the series one of the best in its class which translate into a better computing experience overall.
One of the nice features of the series (which coincidentally, is shared by the TUF Sabertooth X79 and the Rampage IV Extreme) is the implementation of SSD Caching. For those who don’t know, SSD Caching allows Intel’s Z68 chipset owners to use an SSD drive to function as a cache for conventional HDDs in an effort to improve performance. Unfortunately, this isn’t an easy task, and requires users to jump through a lot of hoops to use. ASUS’ SSD Caching method is ridiculously easy in comparison, which only requires users to plug in the SSD drive in the right SATA port (which is clearly marked) and run an application in Windows that sets everything up.
Another nice feature is the ability to be able to flash the BIOS without the need for a video card, CPU or hard drive attached to the system through the ASUS USB BIOS Flashback. The new series also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on-board, which allows you to connect it to your existing network without adding additional wires to the mix.
