Micro Piezo is the high performance print head technology behind the entire Epson inkjet range. It uses piezoelectric materials that bend precisely when charged with varying electric currents to propel precise amounts of ink out of the print head. Today, Epson is the only major printer company in the world that uses this technology in their entire inkjet range, from the largest industrial printers, to their smallest personal photo printers.
One of the printers on display today was the first printer to use the Epson Micro Piezo inkjet, the Epson Stylus 800, which was released in 1993. Mr. Koichi Endo, the current Managing Director of Epson Southeast Asia, was one of the engineers who developed the technology, and was present at today’s luncheon, and presented the evolution of Epson’s printers through the years.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the technology, Epson launched a range of its genuine ink tank system printers that provide quality prints at lower costs per page. Mr. Toshimitsu Tanaka, Epson Philippines’ Country Manager has identified ink tank system printers as an area for growth in the future, due to the high demand in the market.
Currently, inkjet printers are still the core of Epson Philippines, which makes up for almost 50 percent of their business. This is followed by their dot matrix printer sales, and finally their projector business. Due to increasing demand, Tanaka-san has identified ink tank system printers as an area for future growth.
