Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Now I suppose if you want to take fashion to a whole new breadth, depth, and height in this reigning age of technology, you will need to find techniques that adopt ways that can give more than what your average sewing machine can.
Enter Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen (and designer for the late Alexander Mcqueen) and her eccentric and almost outlandish if not out of this world Fall 2011 collection which used 3D rapid laser prototyping techniques to create her monochromatic haute couture. The construction and design take on a very futuristic element (something one very hot space alien could definitely rock or perhaps your typical human female say in the year 3000) and look like they defy the laws of physics with the way they frame the body rather than attach to it.
