Mr. Atsuhiro Okamoto was introduced as the incoming president of Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, with outgoing president Mr. Satoru Suzuki handing over the helm of the country’s top car brand in formal ceremonies held at the Grand Hyatt Manila last February 17.
At the end of a highly successful four-year term as TMP president, Mr. Suzuki recalled significant challenges and achievements, particularly the approval of TMP’s participation in the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy or CARS program saying, “TMP as a vehicle manufacturer, together with our network of auto parts makers, was given the opportunity to take part in revitalizing local manufacturing capabilities and boosting regional competitiveness.”
For his part, Mr. Okamoto described his first few weeks in the Philippines as “unforgettable,” starting with the eruption of Taal Volcano. He remarked on the strength and bayanihan spirit of Filipinos and how the value of malasakit is clearly manifested in the concern for their fellowmen.
“As TMP’s new president, I would like to reiterate to all TMP team members, dealers and suppliers, the importance of dedicating our work to contribute to society. We would like to continuously provide ever better cars, ever better mobility services and solutions to enhance th quality of life of Filipinos,” he added.
The ceremony opened with welcome remarks from TMP chairman Mr. Alfred Ty, followed by special messages from Mr. Tatsuji Hidaka, Mitsui & Co. Ltd. general manager for 1st motor vehicles division; and Mr. Yoshiro Nakata, Toyota Asia region CEO. The Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez delivered the keynote address.
