Heart spills the tea  on what’s next for her at GCash Spotlight

Heart Evangelista-Escudero and GCash are taking over our feeds once again, this time at the official launch event for GCash’s newest payment innovation, Tap to Pay, where next-level payments meet next-level looks.

Hot on the heels of the latest GCash film starring Heart and showcasing the NEW GCash Tap to Pay feature, GCash launches its second installation to their GCash Spotlight YouTube Series, inviting everyone to an afternoon event filled with fame, fashion, and celebrity gossip.

    Heart’s Soft Power Era

Heart talking about how she is in her soft power era, knowing when to say “No.”

Hosted by the King of Talk, Boy Abunda, the program opened hard-hitting questions that revealed Heart’s more vulnerable side. Having just turned forty, this year’s GCash Spotlight event zeroed in on what has changed for her and what’s coming up next for Heart.

“This year, I am living my truth and entering my soft power era. I know when to say no!” explains Heart as Boy asks her how turning the big 4-0 has changed her perspective on fame.

Coincidentally celebrating her 27th year in the industry, Heart shares how she has finally found her voice, “I am finally free,” she says.  At her age and tenure, she no longer feels she needs to scream in order to be heard, she can live life unapologetically –  thinking less about the expectations put upon her by the media and shifting her priorities towards putting herself first.

Heart shows how turning 40 has matured her and how the Heart we see today is the product of her creativity, passion, and strength throughout all her years.

Today, Heart reveals how fashion is more than just an aesthetic; it’s a form of empowerment and resistance, and in her case, an investment. Breaking the mold and dressing for herself, from couture gowns to a plain T-shirt and jeans, there are no rules when it comes to what’s ‘right’ in fashion.

Next Level Payments Meet Next Level Looks!

    GCash
Heart Evangelista-Escudero, Boy Abunda, and Pam Quinones play a quick game of “Tap or Pass”, where they decide whether to buy shoppable items or pass.

With trends constantly shifting, fashion can sometimes feel intimidating and albeit overwhelming. In order to ease the audience of this burden, this year’s GCash Spotlight featured celebrity stylist Pam Quinones, who joined Heart and Boy onstage for a styling segment that allowed guests to learn more about finding their personal style and what pieces work for them.

Pam Quinones showing Heart curated pieces that can suit her elevated everyday outfit ideas

Featuring three looks inspired by Heart’s Fashion Week outfits, Pam showed guests how the NEW GCash Tap To Pay makes finding your style simple and seamless.

It’s not just about trendy aesthetics or simply dressing well. When I think of Fashion, it is all about what feels good for me, creating something unique that builds on and aligns with my personal style. I see it as a point of view. What I believe in manifests in how I choose to present myself, and have fun in the process.”

As a well-known advocate for conscious spending, Quinones also shared that “If you’re purchasing something that can only be worn once, then you probably should take the time to think about that again, what’s great about the pieces we’ve shown today is that we’re reminding everyone to take a pause before they purchase, showing how you can mix and match different pieces to transform you from business formal to a night out with friends, in a way that is still very unique – it’s great value for money. I always believe that when you choose something, you must commit to giving it the longest possible life. ”

Kaspersky: Gaming threats seep into APAC

New threat research from Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence (DFI) team reveals that 11 million gaming account credentials were leaked in 2024. The findings presented during Kaspersky’s Cyber Security Weekend in Da Nang, Vietnam, show that 5.7 million Steam accounts were compromised by infostealer malware in 2024. This notorious type of malware also led to leakage of 6.2 million accounts related to other global gaming platforms: Epic Games Store, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, GOG, and EA app.

Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence analyzed leaked Steam credentials associated with APAC countries, based on data from malware log files. Nearly 163,000 leaked credentials were associated with Thailand, followed by the Philippines with 93,000 compromised login-password pairs. Vietnam rounded out the top three with nearly 88,000. In contrast, the lowest numbers were observed for accounts associated with China, Sri Lanka, and Singapore, with approximately 19,000, 11,000, and 4,000 credentials, respectively.

The APAC region has firmly established itself as the global epicenter of gaming. According to a recent report, more than half of the world’s gamers are based here, with markets such as China, India, Japan, South Korea, and emerging Southeast Asian economies contributing to this dominance. The region’s rapid digital adoption, widespread mobile penetration, and youth-driven demand have fueled exponential growth across both casual and competitive gaming segments.

With close to 1.8 billion players and rising, the gaming ecosystem in APAC is not only the largest by volume but also among the most influential in shaping global gaming trends and behaviors. Thus, it does not come as a surprise that the region is fast-becoming a breeding ground for a data-stealing class of cyber threats.

“Cybercriminals often release stolen log files months — or even years — after the original compromise,” explains Polina Tretyak, a digital footprint intelligence analyst at Kaspersky. “Even credentials stolen years ago can resurface on dark web forums, contributing to a growing pool of leaked information. As a result, the number of compromised gaming accounts is likely much higher than what is immediately visible”.

She adds, “It’s important for people to understand that infostealer threats aren’t always instant or obvious. In case one suspects they have been attacked, running a security check and deleting a malware is a first recommended step. In general, regularly updating passwords an avoiding reuse across platforms can help reduce personal risk”.

How gaming threats may affect businesses – in APAC and beyond

Modern businesses may not consider themselves part of the gaming ecosystem, but they still can be in danger: for example, through employees registering on entertainment platforms using a corporate email address. Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence study shows that 7% of Netflix, Roblox, and Discord users whose accounts were leaked registered there using a corporate email address.

The fact that employees may be using corporate emails to register for personal services, including games, introduces cybersecurity risks. Polina Tretyak noted that if the corporate email is exposed in an infostealer leak, it could potentially open the door to broader corporate threats. “For example, attackers may reach out to an employee and lure them into installing malware on a corporate device or brute force the password. If the password uses predictable patterns — such as ‘Word2025!’, it may take just around an hour or less. Also, fraudsters may gain access to various non-corporate systems under employee accounts and retrieve some important data, as well as access the company’s resources,” elaborated Tretyak.

Infostealers are often disguised as cracked games, cheat software, or unofficial mods. They are used by threat actors looking to steal sensitive information of any kind. Their primary target is account passwords, crypto wallet credentials, credit card details, and browser cookies. Once exfiltrated, the stolen data is traded or offered for free on darknet platforms, and may be used by other cybercriminals for further attacks.

Aside from the harm infostealers can inflict, this malicious package is particularly dangerous in hybrid and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environments common across APAC, where personal and work-related activities often coexist on the same device.

How to build defenses against infostealers

If you, as an individual, encounter a data leak through infostealers, the following steps should be taken immediately:

    • Firstly, run full security scans on all devices, removing any detected malware.
    • Second step is changing compromised account passwords.
    • It is also recommended to monitor for suspicious activity associated with the accounts affected by infostealers.

Companies are recommended to monitor dark web markets proactively to detect compromised accounts before they pose risks to customers or employees. A detailed guide on setting up monitoring can be found here. Leverage Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence to track what cybercriminals know about your company’s assets, identify potential attack vectors, and implement protective measures in a timely manner.

The report offers a deeper look at how AI can benefit everyday Filipinos and address some of the nation’s most pressing challenges. The technology is likely to significantly augment the productivity of 37% of the workforce. This could save the average worker up to three hours a week on administrative tasks, leading to potential wage increases of over 6% and boosting average worker productivity by over PHP110,000 annually.

The study points to the critical role of AI in driving growth across key sectors through productivity gains:

    • Wholesale and Retail with a potential PHP410 billion increase (a 9% rise in gross value added or GVA)
    • Finance and Insurance with a potential PHP300 billion increase (12% rise in GVA), and
    • Public Administration and Defense with a potential PHP109 billion increase (9% rise in GVA).

Beyond the numbers, the report shows AI’s potential to address national challenges, such as cybersecurity and food security. AI tools could help reduce the costs of cybersecurity threats by half (PHP180 billion) and boost the productivity of the agricultural sector by PHP120 billion by 2035 through precision farming and early pest detection.

As it boosts efficiency and productivity by introducing new tools for work, AI is also set to create the next wave of jobs in the Philippines.

The report suggests that AI will also create new roles in managing AI tools and performing more complex, higher-value work. This shift underscores the importance of upskilling, with the report noting that 90% of workers are interested in training to understand how AI models work.

Beko PH achieves 100% plastic waste recovery and diversion

Convenience often comes at an environmental cost, with plastic waste posing as a pressing global issue. Every choice we make, from the products we buy to the packaging they come in, affects our planet’s overall health.

Beko, from Europe’s No. 1 Large Home Appliance company, goes beyond the products it creates. The drive for sustainability is ever consistent to help the community live a healthier and greener life. In fact, Beko Philippines is well on its way to creating a sustainable future through its partnership with PCX Markets, a global plastic responsibility platform that provides solutions to help companies achieve their sustainability goals.

The partnership, which began in 2023, has already yielded impressive results. In 2024, Beko Philippines achieved 100% recovery and diversion of its plastic footprint, going beyond the requirements of the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility law. This landmark achievement involved the diversion of over 39,000kg of plastic waste from nature—the equivalent of 13 million 3-gram plastic sachets.

Beko Philippines has actively supported a lineup of projects with PCX Markets’ vetted partners that not only address plastic waste but also empower local communities:

Top Lun Project: Giving Plastics a Second Life

Through the Top Lun partnership, 33,000kg of rigid HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastics, commonly found in plastic bottle caps sourced from junk shops and informal waste pickers, were successfully recycled into flakes and then sold to companies for use in various products.

    Holcim-Geocycle Project: Fueling Up Energy

Beko also backed the Holcim-Geocycle initiative, fostering collaborations with local government units and waste aggregators. This project facilitated the sourcing of post-consumer plastic waste, which was then transported to Holcim’s cement facilities and served as an alternative fuel source.

The initiative supports Holcim’s efforts to cut dependence on imported fossil fuels and raw materials, while promoting sustainable waste management. The project successfully diverted 4,000kg of flexible plastics from the environment.

Aling Tindera Project: Building a Sustainable Community

The Aling Tindera waste-to-cash initiative empowers women micro-entrepreneurs to drive grassroots sustainability. These entrepreneurs collect or purchase flexible plastics from their local communities to be purchased by the partners and delivered to a co-processing facility, where it is used as alternative fuel in a licensed waste-to-energy plant.

More than helping the sustainability efforts, this initiative also helped the women provide for their families. This program gave around PHP7,500 in incremental income to these women and their communities. There was an increase of 37% in average monthly income compared to the initial project baseline last year.

“At Beko, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our products are designed to deliver comfort and convenience to every Filipino home, while also caring for the planet,” said Alper Yildirim, country director of Beko Philippines. “We are proud of our recent collaboration with PCX Markets, turning plastic waste into valuable opportunities for the environment and the community. We are committed to magnifying our efforts, and we hope this inspires our customers to take pride in choosing Beko as well as for other organizations to be inspired with their own sustainability initiatives,” he added.

With Beko, each thoughtful action and appliance paves the way towards a more sustainable world.

Nation-state APTs employ Dark AI, says Kaspersky expert

Brace for more sophisticated and stealthy attacks driven by the rise of Dark AI in APAC. This is among the key findings shared by global cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky during its APAC Cyber Security Weekend 2025 in Da Nang, Vietnam.

The event featured a timely discussion on how attackers employ AI technology to wage digital menace around the world, from simple phishing attacks to nation-state-backed cyber espionage.

“Since ChatGPT gained global popularity in 2023, we have observed several useful adoptions of AI, from mundane tasks like video creation to technical threat detections and analysis. In the same breath, bad actors are using it to enhance their attacking capabilities. We are entering an era in cybersecurity and in our society where AI is the shield and Dark AI is the sword,” says Sergey Lozhkin, head of global research & analysis team (GReAT) for META and APAC at Kaspersky.

Dark AI refers to the local or remote deployment of non-restricted large language models (LLMs) within a full framework or chatbot system that is used for malicious, unethical, or unauthorized purposes. These systems operate outside standard safety, compliance, or governance controls, often enabling capabilities such as deception, manipulation, cyberattacks, or data abuse without oversight.

    Dark AI in action

Lozhkin shared the most common and well-known malicious use of AI today comes in the form of Black Hat GPTs, which emerged as early as mid-2023. These are AI models that are intentionally built, modified, or used to perform unethical, illegal, or malicious activities such as generating malicious codes, crafting fluent and persuasive phishing emails for both mass and targeted attacks, creating voice and video deepfakes, and even supporting Red Team operations.

Black Hat GPTs can be or private or semi-private AI models. Known examples include WormGPT, DarkBard, FraudGPT, and Xanthorox, designed or adapted to support cybercrime, fraud, and malicious automation.

Aside from the typical dark uses of AI, Lozhkin revealed that Kaspersky experts are now observing a darker trend: nation-state actors leveraging LLMs in their campaigns.

“OpenAI recently revealed it has disrupted over 20 covert influence and cyber operations attempting to misuse its AI tools. We can expect threat actors to create more clever ways of weaponizing generative AI operating in both public and private threat ecosystems. We should brace for it,” he explains.

Open AI’s report revealed that the malicious actors have used LLMs to craft convincing fake personas, respond in real-time to targets, and produce multilingual content designed to deceive victims and bypass traditional security filters.

“AI doesn’t inherently know right from wrong, it’s a tool that follows prompts. Even when safeguards are in place, we know APTs are persistent attackers. As dark AI tools become more accessible and capable, it’s crucial for organizations and individuals in Asia Pacific to strengthen cybersecurity hygiene, invest in threat detection powered by AI itself, and stay educated on how these technologies can be exploited,” Lozhkin adds.

To help organizations defend themselves against Dark AI and AI-enabled cyber threats, Kaspersky experts suggest:
