Meet the Boss Micro BR BR-80: a pocket-sized multitrack recorder

    1

Portable recorders will always be handy to capture those millisenconds of magic when inspiration strikes.

Feast your eyes on the Boss Micro BR BR-80, a multitrack recorder that caters to guitarists and solo musicians. Slightly larger than an iPod, this little powerhouse is capable of simultaneously recording 2 tracks via its built-in stereo condenser mic. It can also playback 8 tracks at the same time and has the ability to host up to 64 virtual tracks for editing, overdubs and mixdowns.

The BR-80 can save data directly on SD/SDHC cards, which offers recording times ranging from 3 hours (1GB) to an impressive 500 hours (32GB). Furthermore, what’s great about Boss’s new portable recorder is that once you’re ready to take your ideas to a desktop computer, it can be used as an audio interface as well, and connects to your Mac or PC via USB. This new hybrid functionality is similar to the Zoom R8, making it easy to switch from mobile recording to editing on your DAW in one swift step.

If you simply want to rehearse or warm up, the BR-80 features an eBand mode which provides an extensive library of backing tracks and rhythm patterns. If none of the preset sounds are appealing, you may import your own WAV or MP3 files to play along with, and you can even minimize vocals/guitar solos on pre-recorded tracks via the Centre-Channel Cancelling effect.

The Micro BR BR-80 comes bundled with Cakewalk SONAR X1 LE and retails for $290 (Php 12,300)

Upgrade your “throne” with the Toilet 2.0

    0

If there’s one gadget I consider the most revolutionary gadget of all time (and no, it’s not the phone or even the computer), it is, hands down, the toilet. I could readily give up any other technology, live an almost post-apocalyptic existence or go back in time as a hunter-gatherer or shepherdess, so long as I had an awesome bathroom with a fully-functional toilet.

And now, this throne might just get a design upgrade. David Hakkens introduces the Toilet 2.0 – a cleaner, tougher, and “greener” way to excuse oneself. The Toilet 2.0 is uses Corian instead of porcelain so that it’s lighter, thinner, and stronger. The wide, shallow shape of the bowl prevents water (and any unpleasant waste) from splashing in or out. It also comes with a built-in freshener that’s easily refillable as well as eight spraying points for high-pressure cleaning. By using the high-pressure cleaning system and reusing gray water from other water supplies like sinks to flush the lines (but not the bowl), it conserves the use of clean water.

It’s still a work in progress. But definitely, this is something fit for Mother Nature herself.

Razer’s Switchblade gaming device has first dibs on new Intel Atom Z690 procie

    0

Razer’s Switchblade concept gaming device made quite a splash when it was unveiled back in January in CES. The concept device promises to deliver unparalleled mobile gaming experience without sacrificing controls and customizability, two things that Razer’s been known for. Aside from customizable controls and an ultra-sensitive multi-touch screen, the Switchblade’s getting a hardware bump courtesy of Intel’s brand spanking new Intel Atom Z690 processor which will run at 1.70 GHz.

“Intel is very excited to be working closely with Razer on the next generation of mobile handheld PC gaming,” said Brad Graff, consumer marketing director, Netbook and Tablet Group, Intel. “The Razer Switchblade concept takes advantage of the Intel Atom processor, providing the performance needed to run 3D PC games in a small and light form factor to enable mobile gaming at significantly less power than a traditional laptop.”

There’s still no word if it’ll ever be available (it is a concept device after all) or the game’s it’ll be able to play, but as soon as we get word, you guys will be the first to know.

Turn your Mac’s trackpad into a MIDI controller

If you’re an electronic musician, lugging around a MIDI controller can eventually take its toll. Not only can the added weight be a burden, but finding space for it in your bag or car can create unnecessary stress.

If you’re a Mac user however, all you may need for a live performance is your laptop.

Meet Track Master, an app designed by LSD Programming that transforms your multi-gesture trackpad into an X/Y MIDI controller without any additional hardware.

It grants users the capability to play a “keyboard” in any key and can detect up to 11 fingers (we’ll leave it to your imagination how you might do this).  Track Master can also be used as an X/Y grid for filter sweeps, etc., and programming the app will be a breeze since it also has MIDI learn, granting full customization. Moreover, the virtual interface also displays tracking stats, such as the precise location of your fingers on the trackpad.

Users may also opt to use Track Master with Magic Trackpad, if they desire the feel of a separate controller, although this sort of defeats the purpose of the app. Track Master has been confirmed to work with Ableton Live, Logic and Traktor and GarageBand.

Track Master (version 2.0) is available on iTunes for $4.99 (approximately Php 212.00).

    Requirements:
    OS X 10.6.6 and above
Magic Trackpad or MacBooks, Macbook Pros or Macbook Airs with a multi-touch trackpad

Man builds adorable Wall-E robot, makes us want one real bad

    0

We’ve seen a few modders build works of nerd art before, but amateur roboticist/tech sorcerer DJ Sures has managed to combine technical badassery and critical levels of cuteness in one go. He’s managed to create his own talking and moving version of Wall-E, complete with voice recognition technology built-in. He used a combination of his own EZ-B Robot Controller, a couple of motorized servos, wireless camera and stuffed them all in a U-Command Wall-E. The end result is pretty damn amazing and extremely adorable, and if you’re up to it, you can probably build one yourself if you have the time and inclination to make such things. We’ve embedded a video below of the thing in action, but be warned, watching it will make you go daaaww uncontrollably.
