Strong Q1 for Bosch Philippines: Power tools business grows 49%, excellent prospects for Bosch Communication Center

Now celebrating its 125th year, the Bosch Group, a supplier of innovative technologies and services in automotive, industrial, consumer goods and building technology, revealed that it achieved annual sales of 47.3-B euros in 2010, the highest ever in its long history.  The global upswing in sales revenue is expected to continue in 2011.

In the Philippines, Bosch posted strong Q1 performance, with the power tools business growing by a dramatic 49%, and the automotive aftermarket revenues growing by 19%.  Bosch’s local portfolio now includes thermotechnology (heating systems) and automotive original equipment (OE) in addition to drives and controls (hydraulics), packaging technology and security sytems.

Bosch Philippines president Joseph Hong noted that:  “Diversification through innovative products as well as business lines and our expanded local presence contributed to the very positive development.”

The newly established Bosch Communication Center is expected to have a stronger presence in the BPO market.  It currently serves both internal and external clients and is proficient in all major Asian languages.  It out-performed targets during its first year of operation.  Plans are underway to expand its sales organization, increase voice service coverage for English-speaking markets, and offer more back office solutions for finance and accounting, as well as IT, travel and tourism.

Asus Asus WAVI Xtion brings body controls to PC users, looks suspiciously like a Kinect

Probably the easiest and best way to describe the WAVI Xtion from Asus is to imagine Microsoft’s Kinect, but for the PC. The kit allows users to use their body to control their computer, and gives them a semblance of natural interaction – you can turn a page on an Ebook on the screen for example, or rotate a picture using both of your hands. There’s even an app portal in place so you can buy games and apps for it, and will ship with a couple of games, including MayaFit, Beat Booster, and DanceWall. We’ve embedded a video of an Asus rep playing with one of the games on the show floor.

ECS’ Black series of motherboards changes color when it gets hot under the collar

Motherboards are the foundation of any good system, and like any piece of circuitry, they’re adversely affected by too much heat. Thermal sensors usually take care of that little issue, but it never hurts to get another, visual reference when your board is about to reach critical mass. Enter ECS’ Black Series of motherboards – the A990FXM-A for AMD fans and the P67H2-A for Intel lovers.

Both of these boards feature ECS’ QoolTech IV technology, which among other things has Thermochromic tech built-in that changes the color of one of the heatsinks to tell you if you’re pushing your board too far.

Project Kal-El spotted at Computex, blows our minds

We had hoped that Project Kal-El, NVIDIA’s next gen Tegra super-chip would make an appearance at COMPUTEX, and boy it did not disappoint. For those of you not in the know, Kal-El is the world’s first quad-core mobile processor that has a 12-core NVIDIA GPU that supports 3D stereo yet is still able to have enough battery endurance to be used in a tablet. The demo tablet that housed Kal-El was running a tech demo called “Glowball” that showed off the graphical prowess of the processor. We’ve embedded a video of actual demo running on the tablet.

Massive dual GPU PowerColor 6870 and 6970 spotted, we got piccies

We mosied onto PowerColor’s booth yesterday, and what did we see waiting for us? Two dual-GPU cards of course. Seems like PowerColor likes doing things by twos, as a dual GPU 6870 and 6970 were both on display. Both will sport dual fan cooler designs, and both will definitely be aimed at enthusiasts.

What’s interesting is that the PowerColor rep mentioned that while the two cards will sport dual-GPUs, the projected power draw wouldn’t be much more than a NVIDIA 580. No word on availability yet, which is well and good – as it gives you more time to pad your wallet.

Petron Lakbay Alalay supports global initiative for road safety

Petron Lakbay Alalay, the county’s longest-running and most extensive motorist assistance program, has aligned its activities to strongly support the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, launched on 11 May 2011.  The campaign was rolled out in the Philippines under the auspices of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), the Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership (PGRSP), and international agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

One of the key elements during the launch was the presentation of the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan (PRSAP), formulated by the DOTC in partnership with other government agencies and private sector representatives.

The global road safety advocacy includes a Road Safety Pledge that states: “ I support the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.  As a road user, I pledge:  Not to use my cell phone while driving; Not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs; To always use a seatbelt while driving; To maintain my car in good, roadworthy condition; Not to be goaded into road rage by aggressive drivers and motorcyclists; Not to throw garbage out of my car; To always observe and follow road laws, rules and regulations.”

Petron Lakbay Alalay, which was recently expanded from a Holy Week motorist emergency assistance activity into a full-blown summer road safety program, inherently supports the objectives of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.  In particular, the free safety checks offered at participating Petron stations helps ensure that vehicles are well-maintained for worry-free travel.  Petron also has a Mobile Lakbay Alalay project that sends road safety tips as well as car care and service reminders to registered mobile phone users.

Through its network of more than 1,700 service stations—the largest in the oil industry—Petron is in an excellent position to further promote the road safety advocacy in response to the worldwide call to action to prevent road accidents and save lives.

Multiply Commerce opens the largest on-line shopping space

My favorite (and only) social networking site has now become an online shopping-heaven for those who dread the weekend trips to the crowded malls (like I do) and who like great bargains, too. Now, a lot of what you need can be found in one intuitive and easy-to-use site, for both shoppers and entrepreneurs alike.

From its beginning as a social networking site where millions of people went to share photos and videos, Multiply has evolved into the largest online shopping site in the Philippines with the introduction of Multiply Commerce. Multiply Commerce features a network that connects virtual shoppers to the widest variety of on-line shops.

Multiply Commerce celebrates the individuality of Digital Pinoys by offering thousands of shops and millions of choices which is a unique platform in the Philippine shopping market. Now positioned as a vibrant shopping destination with an e-commerce platform, shoppers can browse at more than 83,000 shops from Filipino merchants alone, making Multiply.com the widest on-line shopping portal in the country. Aside from providing the most variety of on-line shops, Multiply’s strength as an on-line business platform remains unrivaled. With thousands of successful merchants, Multiply has evolved to become a viable business platform for aspiring entrepreneurs.

”Much like any other business, it is crucial to determine what your unique selling proposition is. The growth of Multiply as a digital shopping network was rather organic, with netizens first seeing its potential as a business platform,” said Multiply Philippines CEO, Jack Madrid, “We listened to the needs of the market and discovered the strength of Multiply, harnessed this opportunity and developed a fully-functioning e-commerce site with the introduction of Multiply Commerce” added Madrid.

Multiply Commerce has upgraded features for both shoppers and merchants. For shoppers, Multiply Commerce introduced the Marketplace that offers a listing of the variety of shops available so people can easily find what they’re looking for. For sellers, the Multiply Commerce program was developed to help them manage and grow their business.

Multiply Marketplace: Offering the widest range of shops on-line

The new Multiply Commerce’s interface immediately shows the Marketplace. From fashion to gadgets to food to baby products, you name it, Multiply Marketplace has it. By joining the community, shoppers will not only be able to browse at products and services offered in the Philippines but will also be able to connect to virtual shops from different regions in just one click.

Multiply Commerce: Offering real-world success for entrepreneurs, on-line

With the introduction of the Multiply Commerce program, sellers can now optimize their businesses with its new features that will help push their businesses forward:

    1. Payment System

In the Philippines, Multiply has partnered with Banco de Oro virtual card, BPI, Paypal and Globe Gcash to ensure fast and safer payment systems since buyers will be paying Multiply.com directly rather than individual shops. In effect, Merchants don’t need to open separate accounts to offer different payment options. They just need a BDO or BPI account where Multiply.com will transfer earning to begin selling.

    2. Product Listings

The product listings feature allows sellers to categorize their merchandise instead of just using the photo album function to share their wares.

    3. Stock Room

The Stock Room feature offers merchants a dashboard of product listings for more efficiently managing their business. This is where they can manage inventory, monitor orders and update product listings and track their cashflow.

    4. Buyer Protection

To ensure safe and seamless transactions, Multiply Commerce offers a Buyer Protection program for sellers who opt to become Trusted Sellers. In this arrangement, Multiply will be able to help the shoppers and merchants resolve transactional issues in case of any disputes.

    5. Shopping Cart

Interested buyers can easily buy several items from a single shop or several items from different shops in one go. This feature fastens the purchasing procedure because they need not contact each shop for individual for multiply orders.

For existing sellers, Multiply Commerce provides a step by step instruction on how to migrate their merchandise from Photo Albums to the new selling platform. Once the seller migrates to the program, buyers who log into Multiply.com will be able to browse more easily and pay more securely using the new platform.

With the introduction of the new and improved Multiply Commerce that takes on an e-commerce platform, buyers and sellers can enjoy easy, safe and accessible shopping and selling.

To open a free shop on Multiply Commerce, email  [email protected]. To browse and shop at Multiply Commerce, log on to www.multiply.com

iCloud to be unveiled on June 6

A couple of weeks ago, there were rumors of Apple’s entry into the cloud-based music service race alongside Amazon and Google.

Today, it is finally official: iCloud will be unveiled on June 6 at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), by none other than Steve Jobs himself.

We will all have to wait until the official public unmasking to find out exactly what iCloud has to offer. Regardless, I bet that Jobs is hoping Apple will be enough to feed our insatiable digital appetites.

Rumored to be a cloud storage/music locker/content delivery service, iCloud will supposedly build people’s online music libraries by initially scanning people’s hard drives and subsequently finding the corresponding song on the company’s servers. This will eliminate the need for users to manually upload their massive digital library onto their cloud storage/music locker.

Apple also has an edge over other companies with cloud services because they’ve secured deals with almost all of the major recording companies. Furthermore, it is also rumored that Apple is close to signing agreements with publishers and that they are negotiating with several film studios as well.

Atom powered tablets running Honeycomb spotted, we have video

    2

It’s not a big secret that Intel got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to tablets and smartphones. Qualcomm and NVIDIA is doing brisk business when it comes to selling chips that power smartphones and tablets, and saying that there’s a pile of money to be made in that particular space is like saying the sky is blue. To that end, Intel has shown several devices here at COMPUTEX running Honeycomb and MeeGo, most likely using Atom processors.

There’s a couple of devices on display, but to be honest they weren’t really running as smooth as we hoped. Then again, Intel’s managed to do this in a short amount of time, so it’s a minor nitpick. We’ve attached a video below.

ASUS outs ROG branded Vulcan ANC Gaming Headset, we want it bad

    1

Asus’ ROG brand is all about making stuff for gamers to help them win. The ROG Vulcan ANC (active noise cancellation) headset certainly fits the bill, as this fiery red headphones has everything gamers need.

It features active noise cancellation, memory foam to keep you comfy during those late-night gaming sessions, excellent sound quality, a detachable boom mike if you don’t feel talking smack about anyone in your game and a cable that detaches automatically so you don’t accidentally turn it into a enormous paperweight.

No word on prices and availability, but an Asus exec told us that it would be priced competitively, so we’re thinking something along the 140-180 dollar range.
