Shopee launches 2025 Tatak Pinoy MSME Training Roadshow to boost MSME growth through e-commerce nationwide

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Brazil, has launched the 2025 Tatak Pinoy MSME Training Roadshow, a nationwide initiative designed to help more Filipino MSMEs succeed online. Launched in partnership with local government units (LGUs) and national agencies, the multi-city roadshow kicked off recently in Mandaluyong. The first 10 stops will be completed by December 2025, expanding Shopee’s decade-long support for local business growth through e-commerce.

Now in its fifth year, Shopee’s Tatak Pinoy initiative has grown from a campaign celebrating Filipino sellers and products into a comprehensive program focused on long-term MSME development. For example, through Tatak Pinoy International, Shopee has supported nearly 200,000 local sellers and enabled the sale of over 22 million Filipino-made products overseas.

    Tatak Pinoy

“Since day one, we’ve been committed to helping Filipino MSMEs succeed through technology. Over the past decade, we’ve seen how digitalization can create real, lasting impact not just for businesses, but for entire communities,” said Jack Ng, head of commercial, Shopee Philippines. “We’re building on that momentum by working hand-in-hand with LGUs to bring training and support to more communities, so even more MSMEs can grow and thrive online.”

This year also marks Shopee’s 10th year in the Philippines—a decade that includes nearly 100,000 hours invested in training and upskilling MSMEs nationwide. As Shopee’s Tatak Pinoy enters this new phase, Shopee continues to champion local craftsmanship and open new pathways for inclusive digital growth across the country and beyond.

A National Push for MSMEs Begins at Shopee’s Home Base

The roadshow kicked off with almost 200 local MSMEs in Mandaluyong City, Shopee’s Philippine home base and a longtime champion for local entrepreneurship. Known for its business-friendly climate and robust public-private partnerships, Mandaluyong embodies the shared commitment with Shopee to empower MSMEs as key drivers of digital inclusion and local development.

“We’re proud Mandaluyong is the launch city for Shopee’s Tatak Pinoy MSME Roadshow,” said Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos. “Our goal has always been to make it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses, especially through accessible and practical digital tools. Partnering with Shopee allows us to bring critical training right to our communities and ensure more local sellers can thrive online.”

“Our small business owners are the backbone of Mandaluyong’s economy,” added Charisse Abalos, councilor of Mandaluyong City. “Shopee’s Tatak Pinoy brings training and support where sellers are most comfortable: in their own communities. It’s about making sure entrepreneurs have the knowledge and confidence to build resilient, digital-first businesses.”

Empowering MSMEs, One City at a Time

The roadshow will travel to other cities including San Juan, Pasig, Calbayog, Catbalogan, Quezon City, Calamba, Laguna, Naga, Meycauayan, and Guiguinto, with more stops planned across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The modular curriculum offers practical, real-world guidance for entrepreneurs at every stage: from onboarding and product listing to advanced strategies like digital marketing, data analytics, and cross-border selling.

“We believe lasting progress for Filipino MSMEs is built on consistent, strategic partnerships with LGUs and local communities,” said Ng. “Our commitment goes beyond the roadshow itself; it’s about creating long-term, institutionalized support that empowers entrepreneurs at every stage. By working closely with our partners, we aim to create an impact that’s not only sustainable but truly transformative.”

Backed by an Ecosystem With a Shared Goal

As part of the roadshow, Shopee is also working closely with its trusted network of partners, all united by a shared mission to strengthen the MSME sector as a key pillar of inclusive national development.

In Mandaluyong, Shopee invited ecosystem partners, SPX Express and Monee, to lead focused sessions on two key enablers of e-commerce success: logistics and financial management, helping them build stronger foundations for sustainable growth and grow their businesses with greater confidence.

“Strategic collaboration among government, industry, and communities is essential for meaningful, long-term progress,” said Atty. Eryl Royce R. Nagtalon, Officer-in-Charge, Department of Trade and Industry – E-Commerce Bureau. “Shopee’s Tatak Pinoy campaign exemplifies private sector leadership that complements our national efforts to promote inclusive digital development.”

Together, these partnerships reflect a shared commitment to building a digital economy that leaves no MSME behind. Through technology, training, and collaboration, Shopee’s 2025 Tatak Pinoy MSME Roadshow is helping communities unlock new opportunities by empowering local entrepreneurs, one city at a time.

Geely flexes the new energy in mobility

The New Geely EX5 and Geely Okavango Elite are out to flex their powers this month of August as your all-around back-to-school, back-to-work, back-to-everything ride.

They are making the rounds and stirring up buzz via the New EnerGeely mall tour. Catch the New Geely EX5 and Geely Okavango Elite at the following venues:

    • Shangri-La Malls on August 7-10
    • Alabang Town Center on August 14-17
    • SM Mall of Asia on August 28 – September 3

Throw in present-day concerns about gas prices rocketing sky-high and it makes urgent sense to get serious about switching to EV and establishing the required ecosystem for it; it was a timely move for Geely Motor Philippines Corporation (GMP), the country’s official distributor of Geely vehicles, to introduce the purely electric Geely EX5 Max during its launch last June 30.

    Geely EX5

The Geely EX5’s presence signals a new era of intelligent green travel for Filipinos, as it has what it takes to be your premium and intelligent compact SUV. The R&D team at the Geely new energy labs loaded the Geely EX5 with a “new version short-blade battery,” which allows the energy of each charge to be released to the fullest, achieving longer endurance at the same power level.

This breakthrough resolves the nagging issue of “slow charging.” It only takes six hours (using a home AC wall charger) to fully charge the Geely EX5, which means that you can plug it in overnight without worrying about the next day’s drive. And, at quick charge stations, you only need 20 minutes to do a fast-charge (30-80%).

Geely EX5 is equipped with an “11-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive System,” powered by Geely Short Blade Battery, a lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, yielding a maximum power of 160KW and maximum torque of 320Nm, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 7.1 seconds.

The Geely EX5 boasts a high-capacity 60.22kWh battery that delivers an impressive WLTP-rated range of 425kms on a single full charge. This reflects real-world driving conditions, ensuring drivers can go farther with confidence.

    Geely Okavango Elite

The search is on for the Most Outstanding School Governance Councils (SGCs) in the country

Multiply-Ed Philippines has officially launched the School Governance Council (SGC) Awards 2025, the country’s first and only national recognition program dedicated to outstanding School Governance Councils. The call for entries is now open, inviting SGCs nationwide to showcase their best practices in promoting inclusive, transparent, and accountable education governance.

The SGC Awards is an initiative of Multiply-Ed, a national project led by the Center for Youth Advocacy and Networking (CYAN) and Government Watch (G-Watch), in partnership with youth and student organizations and with support from Education Out Loud of the Global Partnership for Education. The initiative aims to strengthen participatory education governance and recognize councils that embody leadership, innovation, and community collaboration.

School Governance Councils (SGCs) function as feedback mechanisms and platforms for shared decision-making in schools. They bring together school heads, teachers, parents, learners, and community representatives to ensure that local education systems remain responsive, transparent, and accountable. Through the SGC Awards, Multiply-Ed seeks to honor those that are not only meeting this mandate but redefining it with impact.

SGCs may submit one entry in any of the following three categories:

    SGCs
    • Trailblazer Award, which recognizes the most innovative initiative promoting transparency, participation, and accountability (TPA) in school governance;
    • Solidarity Award, which highlights efforts that fostered strong partnerships and collaboration among various stakeholders within the community;
    • Inclusivity Award, which celebrates initiatives that promote the active involvement and empowerment of marginalized learners.

All SGCs across the country are eligible to apply. Entries must be submitted by any member of the council, accompanied by the completed application form and supporting documentation such as photographs, videos, reports, or articles that provide evidence of the initiative’s implementation and impact.

The submission period runs from August 11 to September 10, 2025. Interested SGCs can download the application form and learn more about the mechanics by visiting bit.ly/JoinSGCAwards2025. All entries must be sent via email to [email protected] with the subject line formatted as: School Name_SGC Awards_Category.

Submissions will be evaluated based on a set of criteria tailored to each award category. Common indicators include the degree of impact or change achieved (30%), the level of youth involvement and leadership (20%), and the design or structure of the project (10%). Category-specific indicators such as use and application of TPA, partnership and collaboration, or marginalized learner inclusion and empowerment carry the highest weight at 40%.

Through the SGC Awards, Multiply-Ed reinforces its advocacy for #MalayangEdukasyonPH, a vision of an inclusive, resilient, and democratic public education system. It seeks to amplify the stories of community-driven education leadership that often go unrecognized and to inspire more schools to embrace shared governance as a pathway toward lasting educational reform.

For more information or questions, the public is encouraged to reach out via Multiply-Ed’s official Facebook page.

    Dune: Awakening — game review

Multiplayer online games, while plentiful, often have to balance the demands of the player base while maintaining their identity. Survival games add an even bigger twist to the genre: working together to fight off the environment and even other players who want to take everything you’ve built up and earned in the game. Dune: Awakening is based on Frank Herbert’s science fiction franchise Dune, which spawned numerous books, comics, films, TV shows, and, of course, video games. But does Dune: Awakening continue to add to the franchise’s glowing reputation?

    Dune

Dune video games have been around since 1992, when Dune and Dune II were released for PC as adventure strategy and real-time strategy (RTS) games, respectively. The latter game became a watershed in RTS history, and while other Dune games have come and gone, bringing an iconic sci-fi franchise to an online multiplayer world almost seems like a match made for the survival game aficionado. You take the role of an undercover agent in the world of Arrakis against the backdrop of a civil war between House Atreides and House Harkonnen in an alternate universe where Dune protagonist Paul Atreides was never born. You are tasked to find the Firemen and awaken the Sleeper.

Before I set foot into the game, I had to also look at the source material: read the Dune books, watch some movies, and a couple of episodes of the TV shows to get an idea of how well the game holds up to the source material itself. When I first stepped into the world of Dune: Awakening, memories of endless grinding came flooding back. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there weren’t many signs of people getting on what the kids would call the “grindset” in this game. However, they leaned extremely into the survival aspect of the genre: standing out in the sun unprotected means guaranteed death, worms that can devour you in seconds if you don’t come prepared, and random sandstorms that can drop your health to zero in a matter of seconds. To top it off, some areas are irradiated and can kill you faster, so you can’t just sit around—and I mean that literally. You will be moving your base around constantly, and you won’t have much time to do it with, so you might be forced to start back at square one if you want any hopes at surviving (let alone making it) in Arrakis. One saving grace in a never-ending attempt at avoiding death is that the graphics are stellar, but to truly enjoy the aesthetics, you will need a higher-end PC (thankfully, as of this writing, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are scheduled to come out in 2026 if you’re willing to wait).

Like all online games, I try to hold out hope that certain issues will be patched, but the combat is still a major work in progress. Keeping your distance from enemies may look like a winning strategy, but melee combat edges out ranged as of this writing. I focused on a stealth build with a Hunter Seeker weapon type because everything is trying to kill me, and I wanted an easy escape route (or, ideally, avoid detection altogether). You can also fight on vehicles or in the air with a Suspensor Belt, which is ideal for ranged combat or if you want the most mobility possible. Some fun things you can do in combat include stunning enemies or even using anti-gravity grenades to suspend them in the air.

Remember when I said that there isn’t as much of a “grindset” in this game? That’s because there are loads of technologies to research, items and equipment to craft, and materials to find without having to repeatedly farm, which is an issue that plagues many online survival MMOs to begin with. Building bases will also cost taxes, basically proving that you can’t escape death and taxes even in a video game. The bigger your base, the bigger your tax bill to the Emperor, and if your base isn’t profitable or you neglect to pay your taxes, the Sardaukar will come to make you pay with your own blood. (Hint: I would rather fight the Arrakis wildlife than the Emperor’s hired goons, if you’re wondering how powerful the Sardaukar are.)

It will take about 80 or so hours to complete the campaign, but the real fun begins when you get into the endgame and PvP. If you want the best stuff in the game, PvP is required, which is frustrating because the combat system in its current state still needs a lot of work. What makes it even more fun is that the Deep Desert gets wiped every week by the Coriolis Storm and creates a new, procedurally generated map. If you want to get the most out of the endgame, find a group of friends (or even bring your own) and start taking stuff over, and hopefully, Funcom patches up the combat.

While the game adheres to the source material to the point of actually living (and dying) out the Dune experience, like many MMOs and survival games, patches are needed to improve the experience, especially with the current combat system. The game is still fun, and bringing your friends into the fold can be a satisfying experience, especially if you’re a fan of the Dune series. As a relative newcomer, I appreciated the unique approach that Funcom took with this game, and I look forward to seeing what new content it will release in the future.

The All-New Yamaha Aerox redefines sporty performance

Yamaha Motor Philippines has launched the all-new Aerox and Aerox SP. These high-performance evolutions of Yamaha’s iconic AT feature bold design updates, rider-focused innovation, and new track-inspired features. The Aerox SP delivers a ride that’s both thrilling and intelligent. Paired with the refined standard edition, it offers two dynamic options for riders seeking everyday usability with unmistakable supersport energy.

At the core of both models lies Yamaha’s latest-generation 155cc Blue Core engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), designed for efficient, high-revving performance across varying speeds. In the Aerox SP, the experience is elevated even further through Yamaha Electric CVT (Y-ECVT) technology, offering refined throttle control and a heightened sense of acceleration. The Aerox SP also introduces 3-level Downshift Control, allowing riders to tailor deceleration for more precise handling. Selectable Sport and Touring Modes adapt power delivery for either dynamic sprints or relaxed urban rides.

    Aerox

A standout feature of the Aerox SP as well is its full-color 4.2-inch TFT display. Designed for both style and function, the screen adapts to different scenarios such as lap tracking and commute data, and features animated RPM waveforms that add energy to the dash. Riders can also enjoy integrated turn-by-turn navigation through Google Maps, enabled via Yamaha’s Y-Connect app. This smartphone connectivity also delivers real-time stats, including fuel consumption, engine diagnostics, maintenance reminders, and even the last parked location.

The Aerox SP’s front end is equipped with a single-channel ABS for additional braking confidence. Features like the Smart Key system and Yamaha’s Stop & Start System provide everyday convenience with premium appeal. The Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Traction Control System (TCS) round out the ride-enhancing tech built into the Aerox SP.

Both Aerox models share core innovations that blend performance with efficiency. A larger 30mm inner front fork tube, superwide tubeless tires, Handlebar switch control, new rear disc brake, 5.5-liter fuel tank, and 24.5 liters of underseat storage allow riders to go further. A built-in USB-C socket keeps devices charged on the move. The redesigned cockpit, inspired by Yamaha’s R-Series, places the rider at the center of a more aggressive, supersport-influenced experience.

The standard edition of the Aerox carries over much of the same DNA, retaining the same refined 155cc VVA engine and sporty visual identity. It provides a well-balanced ride for urban commuters and everyday explorers who demand sharp design and reliable performance, without compromising on comfort or style.

The all-new Aerox and Aerox SP were born from a refusal to follow, designed for those who move first and never check the rearview. This is more than a motorcycle. It’s momentum in motion. “Fast Never Looks Back” is more than a slogan. It is the heartbeat of the Aerox story.

From the first twist of the throttle, this motorcycle brings more than motion. It brings momentum. Built for riders who set the pace, it merges supersport DNA with everyday mobility. Sharp styling, advanced tech, and instant response make every ride a statement.

Officially launched at the 2025 Yamaha Motorshow in One Ayala Makati on August 1, 2025, the Aerox series has evolved to take the reputation of being the fastest AT to new heights. With these new editions, riders will continue to experience how Yamaha can take them to the edge of speed.  With the Aerox SP leading the charge, Yamaha raises the bar once again in the automatic segment. This is more than a motorcycle. It’s a bold expression of performance, technology, and style for the new generation of riders.

The Aerox SP has an SRP of PHP163,900 and comes in Matte Blue. The Aerox Standard Edition has an SRP of PHP125,900 in colors of Race Blu, Glaze Blue, and Yamaha Black. These are available at the Yamaha Flagship shop, YZONE,  RevZones, and official 3S Shops nationwide.

    Xiaomi Smart Band 10 reviewed

If you’re looking for a smartwatch that keeps up with your health goals, looks good on your wrist, and doesn’t need constant charging—or a big budget—the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 might be just what you need. Designed for students, young professionals, and anyone curious about wearable tech, this smart band offers daily fitness tracking, long battery life, and plenty of customization in a sleek, lightweight package.

I’ve worn it for a few days now—from work to walks—and here’s what it’s really like.

    Design: 4/5

The first thing I noticed was how clean and minimal it looks. It’s lightweight and comfortable, so wearing it all day doesn’t feel tight or bulky. The screen blends nicely with the band, giving it a polished, modern look. I got the rose color, and it looks elegant and fresh on my wrist.

One of the fun parts? You can choose from over 200 watch faces using the Mi Fitness app. Whether you want something simple, animated, or playful, there’s a design for every mood, allowing you to add a personal touch to your day. It’s a small detail, but it makes the band feel more like an extension of your personality.

    Hardware: 4/5

For such a slim device, the Smart Band 10 packs in a lot. The 1.72-inch AMOLED display is bright and colorful, with a 60Hz refresh rate that makes swiping and tapping feel smooth and responsive. It’s easy to read messages, icons, and even animated watch faces.

It connects via Bluetooth 5.4, and syncing with my iPhone through the Mi Fitness app was quick and easy. It also works with Android phones running Android 8.0 or higher. The connection stays stable, and I haven’t had any issues with lag or dropped sync.

    Xiaomi Smart Band 10

The 233mAh battery might sound small, but it lasts surprisingly long: up to 21 days on typical use. Charging is simple with the magnetic charger, and it takes about an hour to fully charge. No ports, no hassle—just snap it on and go.

It’s also 5ATM water-resistant, so I didn’t have to worry about splashes or washing my hands while wearing it. I haven’t tried swimming with it, but for everyday use, it feels durable and safe.

    User Experience: 4/5

As someone new to smartwatches, I found the Smart Band 10 easy to use. It tracks steps, heart rate, and sleep automatically, with no extra setup needed. You don’t need internet for the basic features, and even when my phone isn’t nearby, the band keeps tracking and syncs later via Bluetooth.

For things like notifications, music control, camera remote, or GPS navigation, you’ll need your phone connected. But for everyday tracking, the band works independently, which is great when you’re on the move and don’t want to carry your phone around.

The interface is simple and intuitive. Swiping through menus feels natural, and the icons are easy to understand. I especially liked how the sleep tracker gave me insights into my rest patterns without needing to dig through complicated data.

    Value: 4.5/5

At PHP2,499 (or PHP2,999 for the Ceramic Edition), it’s a solid deal. You get a lot of features without spending a fortune. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but now I get why people love wearing smartwatches.

Compared to more expensive options, the Smart Band 10 holds its own. It doesn’t have advanced features like ECG or voice assistants, but for everyday wellness and convenience, it’s more than enough.

    Bottomline

The Xiaomi Smart Band 10 showed me that smartwatches don’t have to be expensive to be useful. It’s stylish, lasts long, and helps me stay on top of my health, even without being online all the time. If you’re thinking about getting your first smartwatch or just want something simple and reliable, this one’s worth checking out.

More than just a gadget, it’s a helpful companion that fits into your daily routine without demanding too much attention.

    What’s Hot:

    • Bright, clear screen
    • Lots of watch faces
    • Water-resistant

    Dyson Supersonic r reviewed

I’m no stranger to Dyson’s haircare lineup. I have the original Supersonic, the Airwrap, and the Corrale straightener, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect from this latest release. But the Dyson Supersonic r surprised me. Not just because of its radical new design, but because it finally feels like a hair dryer made for people like me: those of us with thick, coarse hair that takes forever to dry.

I’ve spent years trying to tame my hair into submission. Blow-drying used to be a 30-minute arm workout, followed by another 15 minutes of styling. So when Dyson claimed the Supersonic r could cut drying time and reduce heat damage, I had to put it to the test.

    Design: 4.5/5

The first time I held the Supersonic r, I did a double take. It looks nothing like a traditional dryer. Instead of the usual barrel shape, it curves like the letter “r,” making it surprisingly ergonomic. Dyson says it’s 30% smaller and 20% lighter than the original Supersonic, and I immediately felt that difference. At just 325 grams, it’s incredibly light, and the curved handle makes it easier to reach the back of my head without twisting my wrist into weird angles.

The Supersonic r comes in a gorgeous matte ceramic pink finish with rose gold accents. Although I would have wanted the option to color-match it with my bright nickel and copper Airwrap. The oversized plug is also a bit of a nuisance, especially if your outlets are in tight spaces. However, that’s really nitpicking, and a very minor trade-off for the comfort and control the design offers.

    Hardware: 5/5

Inside this compact frame is Dyson’s Hyperdymium motor, spinning at 110,000RPM. That’s the same powerhouse tech found in their other styling tools, and it shows. The airflow is strong but controlled, and it doesn’t rely on scorching heat to get the job done. For someone like me, with hair that usually takes 25–30 minutes to dry, this was a breakthrough.

The Supersonic r also features a new streamlined heater with ten foils that evenly distribute heat. To prevent heat damage, it constantly measures air temperature over 100 times per second. That’s a big deal for coarse hair like mine, which is already prone to dryness and breakage. There are four heat settings, three airflow speeds, and a cold shot button.

The Supersonic r can only be operated with one of the five RFID-enabled nozzles attached. These really blew me away (pun intended) as each one automatically adjusts the dryer’s settings for a particular use. No need to stop and fiddle with the buttons.

Here’s a quick rundown of the attachments that come in the box:

    • Powerful air attachment – produces high-velocity airflow to dry hair fast
    • Gentle air attachment – evenly diffuses airflow, produces cooler air that’s gentler on the scalp
    • Smoothing nozzle – delivers more ions to reduce frizz, giving hair a smooth natural finish
    • Professional concentrator – focuses air for precise styling
    • Flyaway attachment – attracts longer hair strands and hides flyaways

    User Experience: 4.5/5

Let me be honest: I didn’t expect to love this dryer as much as I do. But after a week of daily use, I’m hooked. Drying my hair now takes just 10 minutes, sometimes less. That’s a huge improvement, and it means I’m more likely to actually style my hair instead of just pinning it back with a clawclip.

The Supersonic r is also noticeably quieter than other dryers I’ve used. I can still listen to music or catch up on a podcast while styling, which makes the whole process feel less like a chore.

The attachments are where Dyson’s attention to detail really shines. First, I use the Powerful Air Attachment to quickly turn dripping wet hair into ready-to-style, almost dry strands. I then switch to the Gentle Air Attachment to get closer to the roots without hurting my scalp. Then, I use the Flyaway Attachment to smooth out some of the frizz and finally finish with the Smoothing Nozzle to add extra ions that keep my hair shiny.

    Value: 3/5

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the price. At PHP37,900, the Supersonic r is a serious investment. But with my thick, coarse hair that takes ages to dry (let alone style), it’s a price I’m willing to pay for the time, convenience, and results.

That said, I do wish the storage case had been customized with slots for the dryer and attachments. I also wish it came with a handy travel pouch. Just nice little add-ons to add perceived value. But again, these are minor gripes.

Overall, its performance, design, and thoughtful features make it feel like a luxury that’s actually practical.

    Bottomline

The Dyson Supersonic r reimagines what a hair dryer can be. It’s light, powerful, smart, and genuinely enjoyable to use. For someone like me, who’s spent years battling thick, unruly hair, it’s a total game-changer. If you’ve been on the fence about investing in high-end hair tech, this might be the one that finally convinces you.

    What’s Hot:

    • Lightweight and ergonomic design
    • Fast drying time
    • Smart attachments with automatic settings
    • Reduced heat damage
    • Quiet operation

    What’s Not:

    • High price point
    • Oversized plug

    Specifications:

    • Weight: 325 grams
    • Motor: Hyperdymium, 110,000RPM
    • Heat Settings: 4
    • Airflow Speeds: 3
    • Attachments: RFID-enabled

Maya named Best Virtual Bank in PH for 3rd straight year

Maya, the Philippines’ #1 Digital Bank, has been recognized as the Best Virtual Bank in the country at the Asian Banking & Finance’s Retail Banking Awards 2025. This is Maya’s third consecutive win at the awards program and comes as the company reports strong growth, continuous innovation, and profitability.

Built on a fully digital ecosystem, Maya has become the everyday digital bank for millions of Filipinos with services designed to be seamless, easy to use, and widely accessible. The recognition reflects how Maya has rapidly scaled to serve the country’s largely underserved market with a complete suite of digital banking and payment solutions, driving both inclusion and sustainable business growth.

“We’ve built a platform that makes managing finances simple, smart and accessible for both consumers and enterprises, while growing Maya sustainably as a business. This recognition is proof that digital banking can create real impact at scale for large underserved and unserved segments in the Philippines,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group president and Maya Bank co-founder.

“We owe this achievement to our customers who trust us every day, and to our employees whose dedication powers everything we do,” said Angelo Madrid, Maya Bank president.

“This recognition motivates us to keep raising the bar and to serve Filipinos even better with digital banking that truly makes a difference in their lives.”

Maya has unlocked access to financial services for mobile-first Millennials, Gen Zs as well as MSMEs that have long been underserved. According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), over half of adults saved at home or borrowed informally in 2021, while 2024 data shows only 4% of bank loans reach MSMEs, which make up 99% of all businesses.

Maya’s integrated ecosystem combines Maya Bank’s digital banking with Maya Philippines’ digital payments network. Its platform uses real-time activity across users and merchants to deliver smarter credit decisions, stronger fraud protection, and personalized financial products.

This approach has helped Maya grow into a category leader in customer base, deposits and consumer lending while delivering seamless, accessible financial services to millions of Filipinos.

Maya surged in the first quarter of 2025, with deposits reaching PHP44 billion, up 49% from the previous year. Loan disbursements climbed to PHP28 billion, tripling year-on-year, while the customer base grew to 6.8 million, an 88% increase. Total cumulative loans since launch have now reached PHP120 billion, cementing Maya’s lead as the country’s #1 digital bank.

This marks the third consecutive year Maya has been honored by Asian Banking & Finance, having been named Best Virtual Bank in 2023 and Best New Virtual Bank in 2024.

Can You HackIT by IBPAP launches in Cebu, crowns Silliman University team as first champion

The Philippine tech industry just made a bold statement: innovation isn’t confined to Metro Manila—it’s thriving across the archipelago. That belief powered the launch of Can You HackIT, a groundbreaking initiative by the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), which debuted recently in Cebu City.

The event brought together 28 student teams from 14 schools for a week of mentorship and a high-impact, one-day hackathon designed to spotlight regional tech talent.

    Can You HackIT

    A Platform for Purpose-Driven Innovation

Can You HackIT is the brainchild of IBPAP president & CEO Jack Madrid, alongside trustees Ambe Tierro of Accenture and Sanjiv Gupta of IBM, under the guidance of IBPAP’s Tech and AI Council. Their shared vision: to build a national platform that connects students with real-world tech leaders and transforms ideas into impact.

“The Cebu hackathon is a powerful reminder that innovation thrives where talent meets purpose,” said Tierro, Accenture’s country managing director. “Can You HackIT proves that innovation isn’t tied to geography—it’s tied to belief,” added Gupta, IBM Philippines president. “When the industry comes together as a united ecosystem, we unlock talent that’s been ready all along.”

Merge Conflict’s Bant AI: A Digital Guardian for Filipino Families

The standout team at the hackathon was Merge Conflict from Silliman University in Dumaguete City. They claimed both the Top 1 Award and Best Use of AI for their project, Bant AI, an application that detects harmful online content in real time, alerts parents, and provides emotional analysis to guide family responses.

Built to understand Filipino, Cebuano, and English, Bant AI is designed for the realities of Filipino households navigating digital spaces.

“We wanted to build something that protects kids before the damage is done and helps parents understand what their children are really experiencing online,” the team shared during their final pitch.

    Collaboration Over Competition

Can You HackIT exemplifies what’s possible when the tech industry collaborates across brands and sectors. The initiative was made possible through the support of Accenture, IBM, EY GDS, Lexmark, Carelon, and Philtech, with local partnerships from Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U), Cebu IT-BPM Organization (CIB.O), and DITO.

“This was a full-force community effort,” said Madrid. “It worked because the industry didn’t just fund it, they helped shape the future alongside our students.”

    Scaling Across Philippine Tech Hubs

The Cebu hackathon came together in just a few weeks, thanks to the sharp execution and full support of CIB.O and CIT-U, which served as the cradle of the initiative. With Cebu as a successful proof of concept, IBPAP is now preparing to scale Can You HackIT to other regional tech hubs across the country.

“We’re not just opening doors,” Madrid emphasized. “We’re building new ones—and making sure no student with talent, heart, and hustle gets left standing outside.”

Canon unveils EOS / PowerShot V series tailored for today’s content creators

Canon Philippines has unveiled its latest cameras: the EOS R50 V, PowerShot V1, along with PowerShot V10, three groundbreaking products that represent the launch of Canon’s new video-focused camera lineup: the EOS / PowerShot V Series. These cutting-edge cameras supplement Canon’s existing product portfolio with new video-centered features specifically designed to address the needs of a new generation of creators.

The launch event, held at Midnight Dream Studios, Glorietta 1, brought together over 100 media personalities, influencers, and content creators, including Farrah Espina, Liana of Art and Plan Studio, Karl Patacsil, Jo Escultura, and Gab Altonaga, who experienced hands-on demonstrations across seven specialized areas: livestream, podcast, GRWM (get ready with me), unboxing, food content, lifestyle, and video editing.

    EOS / Powershot V

Video-first platforms like TikTok have transformed content creation, with creators now prioritizing dynamic video over traditional photography. However, many Filipino creators still rely primarily on smartphones, which can limit video quality and creative control. Canon thus identified a key opportunity to boost production quality with user-friendly cameras tailored for today’s digital storytellers.

“Filipino creators have a strong enthusiasm for capturing life’s moments and producing engaging video content,” said Jian Liu, Canon Philippines Director for Consumer Information and Imaging. “With the EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1, they can enjoy a blend of portability, intuitive controls, and high-end performance. Whether they’re vlogging, livestreaming, or making short films, Filipinos can now tell their stories more powerfully, thanks to the reliability and innovation Canon is known for.”

    Professional power and creator-friendly features

The EOS R50 V features a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor similar to those found in Super 35mm cinema cameras, bringing professional filmmaking capabilities to creators. Cinema EOS features like Custom Pictures, LUTs, and HDR recording modes deliver high-quality results. Advanced capabilities include 4K 60p livestreaming via USB-C and professional audio with 3-mic noise reduction technology. Its design includes a streamlined, viewfinder-less body optimized for handheld shooting, gimbal compatibility, and vertical video recording—perfect for social media content.

The camera pairs well with the compact RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, Canon’s first-ever lens with built-in power zooming, which has 15 customizable zoom speeds.

Meanwhile, Canon’s first video-centric compact camera, the PowerShot V1, combines a large 1.4-inch sensor with an integrated zoom lens covering 16–50mm equivalent. The built-in 3-stop ND filter and Subject Tracking IS ensure professional-quality footage in any shooting condition. The camera’s internal cooling fan enables extended recording sessions up to 6 hours.

Both cameras support 10-bit Canon Log 3 recording for professional color grading, while enhanced connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and direct PC streaming capabilities.

With the comprehensive V Series lineup, Canon provides the rapidly expanding Filipino creator economy with professional tools that bridge smartphone convenience with cinema-quality capabilities.

The EOS R50 V with RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ (camera only) is priced at PHP56,998, the PowerShot V1 at PHP54,998, and the EOS R50 V Content Creator Kit (HG-TBR100 and DM-E100) at PHP64,998, now available at Canon retail stores nationwide.

MOVE IT brings social protection closer to moto-taxi riders, subsidizes Pag-IBIG contributions

MOVE IT is strengthening its commitment to providing viable livelihoods and social protection for its rider-partners as it becomes the first motorcycle taxi platform in the Philippines to subsidize Pag-IBIG Monthly Savings for top-performing riders. The program marks a landmark step toward making state-sponsored welfare programs more accessible to platform workers in the country’s rapidly expanding mobility sector.

The program covers high-achieving riders in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro, identified through strict metrics on service quality, safety performance, and productivity. It gives qualified MOVE IT rider-partners access to Pag-IBIG Fund’s full range of financial services — from affordable home financing and short-term loans to its high-yield MP2 savings program — giving thousands of platform workers a pathway to long-term security.

To avail of the subsidy, drivers must have their Pag-IBIG Membership ID (MID) number linked to their MOVE IT profiles. Qualified riders can then apply through a dedicated portal within their driver app, which will cross-reference their performance records and uploaded Pag-IBIG Fund membership details.

Following his discussions with rider communities, Jacinto underscored the critical role of platforms in providing access to social protection programs.

    Move IT
Pag-IBIG Fund, along with other social protection agencies, has a satellite office at the Grab and MOVE IT Asenso Center in Marikina City, making it easier for partners of the platforms to apply for membership

To make social protection more accessible for both two-wheel and four-wheel drivers, MOVE IT and Grab have designated satellite-office spaces for SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG Fund at the Asenso Center in Marikina, a hub for onboarding and training programs for current and aspiring driver-partners. The partnership with the agencies also covers Social Protection 101 courses geared at empowering platform workers to voluntarily contribute to long-term financial security and planning.

Grab pioneered Pag-IBIG Fund subsidization for its top-performing GrabCar and GrabFood driver-partners in the second quarter of 2025 — a move that, alongside MOVE IT’s latest rollout, reflects the platforms’ shared commitment to extending welfare benefits to the country’s independent workers.

HighLevel Inc. champions Philippine digital workforce initiative in groundbreaking partnership

In a move that signals growing international confidence in Philippine digital talent, HighLevel Inc. has thrown its full support behind the HL Pilipinas 1st Anniversary Summit, scheduled for August 10 at the Quezon City M.I.C.E. Center.

The partnership represents a significant milestone for the local tech community, with HighLevel—a platform that has skyrocketed from USD1 million in 2020 revenue to USD82.7 million in 2024—recognizing the Philippines as a strategic hub for digital innovation.

    Government Backing Amplifies Community Impact

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), through its ICT Industry Development Bureau (IIDB), has joined forces with the Quezon City Local Government to co-organize the event. This collaboration underscores the government’s commitment to its ambitious EDGE PH Program, which aims to create 8 million digital jobs by 2028.

“We’re witnessing a convergence of grassroots innovation and institutional support,” said organizers Jay-Cee “Cece” Tan and Diana “Dea” Panganiban of HL Accelerator. Their community-driven approach has already demonstrated impressive results, with 90% of participants securing clients within a month and 68% achieving income doubling through specialized training.

High-ranking officials including Atty. Leandro Angelo Aguirre from DICT, Quezon City Administrator Michael Victor N. Alimurung, and IIDB Director IV Emmy Lou V. Delfin will open the proceedings, highlighting the event’s strategic importance to national digitalization efforts.

From Local Success to Global Recognition

The platform, now serving over two million businesses worldwide, has found a particularly receptive audience among Filipino professionals seeking to master CRM automation, SaaS operations, and remote agency management.

The summit’s speaker lineup reflects this global-local dynamic. Alicia Pagano, HighLevel Inc’s Head of Certification, will unveil the official HighLevel Certified Admin Program alongside Filipino motivational speaker Chinkee Tan. International contributors include Dakota Routh from Agency Support and Pakistan’s Arham Abid from GHL Starboys, creating a truly cross-cultural learning environment.

    HIghLevel

    Real-Time Career Opportunities

Beyond educational sessions, the summit promises tangible employment outcomes. Live job-matching sessions will connect Filipino professionals with opportunities across Australia, the US, and UK markets. In an unprecedented move, over 10 agencies will conduct on-site Virtual Assistant interviews from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with potential for same-day hiring decisions.

Quezon City residents can access these opportunities without advance registration—simply by visiting the venue during the designated hours. This open-door policy reflects HL Accelerator’s commitment to community accessibility and local economic development.

    Bridging Heritage and Innovation

The event’s Modern Filipiniana theme symbolizes more than aesthetic choice—it represents the organization’s philosophy of honoring cultural identity while embracing technological advancement. This approach has resonated with participants who see themselves as ambassadors of Filipino excellence in the global digital marketplace.

Virtual attendance options, priced at PHP497, include lifetime access to recordings and the comprehensive HL Pilipinas Vault containing eight complete training modules. Virtual participants remain eligible for raffle prizes valued between PHP50,000-PHP100,000, ensuring equitable access to opportunities regardless of physical location.

    Measuring Success, Planning Growth

The summit will present concrete data on digital job creation over the past year while celebrating the first graduating class of certified HighLevel Administrators. This evidence-based approach aligns with DICT’s methodology for tracking progress toward the 8 million jobs target.

With 1,000-1,500 attendees expected, the event represents one of the largest gatherings of Filipino digital workers and SaaS professionals to date. The turnout itself demonstrates the growing appetite for structured, certification-based career development in the digital economy.

    Looking Forward

As HighLevel’s official recognition marks a new chapter for Philippine digital talent, the summit serves as both celebration and launching pad. The partnership validates what local advocates have long maintained: that Filipino professionals possess the skills, dedication, and innovation necessary to lead in the global digital economy.

    Event Details:

For Quezon City residents: Drop-in job application sessions available 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, no advance registration required.
