    2025 Yamaha National Technician Grand Prix showcases the best in motorcycle service

    Yamaha Motor Philippines spotlighted the country’s most elite motorcycle technicians at the 2025 National Technician Grand Prix, a celebration of world-class service and technical mastery held at Festival Mall Alabang. Ten of the country’s best Yamaha mechanics showcased their expertise in two demanding challenges that tested both their customer service skills and technical abilities. 

    In the Customer Handling Challenge, participants were tasked with simulating real-life service scenarios. They walked customers through the repairs performed, explained their significance, and offered valuable maintenance advice. This test reinforces Yamaha’s belief that great service extends beyond repairs—it’s about building trust through clear and informed communication. Given only five minutes, they were put under the microscope as they delivered their service routine on stage with every word exchanged with their customer heard across the venue.

    The Technical Skills Challenge was an entirely different obstacle. It pushed diagnostic and repair abilities to the limit. Tackling complex engine issues assisted by the Yamaha Diagnostic tool. It is a specialized diagnostic system developed by Yamaha to facilitate efficient maintenance and troubleshooting of Yamaha motorcycles. It enables technicians to interface directly with a vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU), allowing for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and system resets. With only 60 minutes to identify and fix the problem, they demonstrated not only technical expertise, but their pride, resilience, and professionalism that exemplified Yamaha standards.

    When the clock hit zero and all the tools were laid down, only three technicians would rise to the summit of Yamaha Service excellence.

    The Champion of the Yamaha Motor Philippines National Technician Grand Prix was Leo Dumalag, the technician from 3S CDO 2 Cycle Marketing Lapasan CDO. His performance and technical precision set him apart from the competition. He has earned the honor of representing the Philippines at the World Technician Grand Prix in Japan, a brand-new Yamaha Aerox, and JPY40,000.

    The runner up, Jemuel Fajardo from 3S Motorcentral Sto. Tomas Batangas stepped up to the challenge and was on par with the champion nearly every step of the way.  Missing the top spot by a hair, he earned himself PHP50,000.

    Christopher Ian Linao from 3S Motorcentral General Trias, had an impressive overall performance throughout the competition. Aside from earning his spot in the top three which netted him PHP30,000, he also claimed the Customer Service Award and took home a special helmet. 

    The seven technicians outside the top three were recognized for their qualification to the NTGP and received each PHP5,000. 

    The National Technician Grand Prix is more than a competition; it’s a testament to Yamaha’s culture of continuous improvement. By challenging the mechanics to push their limits, they are encouraged to grow, learn, and lead the way in motorcycle care across the country.

    Bigger and better: Construction begins on new Isuzu Dumaguete facility

    Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), in partnership with its dealer group Southern Auto Mart, officially broke ground on the relocated site for Isuzu Dumaguete, signaling the start of a new chapter in delivering world-class automotive services to the region.

    LIMITLESS 2025: Empowering the youth through statistics

    On May 10, over a hundred students and young professionals shifted to high gear as they
    gathered at the University of the Philippines – Diliman School of Statistics for LIMITLESS 2025:
    National Youth Summit on Statistics
    . Anchored on the theme “Accelerating into the Future,” the
    summit proved to be more than just a showcase of knowledge in the field of statistics. To great
    success, the UP Statistical Society (UP StatSoc) was eager to hold an event that empowered
    youth-led learning and collaboration.

    With a record-breaking 202 registrants and 191 active participants, LIMITLESS 2025 marked
    the summit’s biggest turnout to date. The event proved this to be more than a statistic—it was
    an indicator that young people are ready to launch toward greater heights to use data to make a
    difference.

    Seeing the participants engage with each other and enjoy the talks and activities that the team
    prepared was my personal event highlight,” shared Francis Villegas, one of the summit’s overall
    directors. “LIMITLESS, at its core, is a youth summit. Our goal was to create a space where
    attendees could freely explore what the event offers together.

    One of the standout changes this year was the interactivity of the summit. The organizing team
    introduced “strata booths”—educational game stations that allowed attendees to engage with
    complex concepts through play. The workshop competition also included mini-games, making
    the learning process more dynamic and collaborative.

    LIMITLESS 2025 also expanded its scope with diverse and timely topics, including Statistics in
    Nation-Building, Banking and Finance, and Sports Analytics. These additions are a stark
    reflection of UP StatSoc’s mission: to show how statistics is not just a technical field, but a
    powerful tool for real-world change.

    To close the summit, Villegas encouraged attendees to carry their learnings forward:

    “May all of us strive to use data and statistics in whatever we do to forge a healthier, more
    sustainable, and stronger future—for ourselves and for the country.”

    Contact Islands 2025 discusses how global geopolitics are reshaping the contact center and business process industry 

    As the Philippine contact center and business process sector enters a defining moment, global political tensions and emerging technologies are reshaping its trajectory. At the forefront of this shift is the return of U.S. President Donald Trump, whose renewed protectionist stance poses fresh challenges to the country’s top outsourcing market.

    The United States remains the dominant source of outsourced work to the Philippines, accounting for approximately 85% of total contracts, based on Nexford University data from 2021. With the remaining demand coming from the UK and Australia—also susceptible to U.S. policy influence—the country’s IT-BPM industry is bracing for impact.

    “The contact center and business process sector are preparing for any policy changes that may affect growth, especially in light of renewed geopolitical uncertainties,” said Haidee C. Enriquez, President of the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP), which represents over 167 companies. “But we remain confident. Our agility and resilience, sharpened through the pandemic and AI integration, position us to withstand these disruptions.”

    Historical trends support this caution. During Trump’s first term, industry growth fell sharply—from 12.3% in 2016 to just 2.5% in 2017, and 3.9% in 2018. With a second term now underway, the sector is watching closely for signals of renewed economic nationalism and shifts in investor confidence.

    Resilience, Growth, and Real Numbers

    Despite these uncertainties, the Philippine contact center industry posted solid growth in 2024. According to CCAP, the sector achieved an estimated USD31.5 billion in annual revenue — up 6.8% from the USD29.5 billion projection previously set for 2025. While the target was not met in sequence, the growth trajectory remains positive.

    Contact centers accounted for 83% of the IT-BPM industry’s total USD38 billion in revenue last year. Employment also rose, reaching 1.62 million workers in 2024—an 11% jump from 1.51 million in 2023. The contact center workforce represents 89% of total IT-BPM jobs.

    Enriquez remains optimistic about reaching the industry’s ambitious USD49 billion revenue target by 2028.

    “We are consistently re-skilling and upskilling our workforce while strategically integrating AI into our operations,” Enriquez said. “Despite global headwinds, we are creating jobs, accelerating digital adoption, and contributing to national economic growth.”

    These challenges and opportunities will take center stage at Contact Islands 2025, the industry’s annual flagship conference organized by CCAP. With the theme “Beyond the Hype: CX, AI, and the Forces Reshaping Philippine Contact Centers,” the summit promises an unfiltered, deeply relevant dialogue among industry leaders.

    “Contact Islands 2025 will not be business as usual,” Enriquez said. “We’re hosting honest conversations—real talk—about the powerful forces redefining our industry, our country, and our global role.”

    Key sessions will tackle:

    • The geopolitical implications of a second Trump administration.
    • AI’s true impact—beyond buzzwords—including real-world use cases, risks, and ethical considerations.
    • The sector’s updated roadmap toward 2028 targets.
