SAIC sales surge in H1 2025 as multiple MG models earn global recognition

SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG’s official distributor in the Philippines, has announced strong global performance for the first half of 2025. The company reported total vehicle sales of 2.053 million units from January to June, marking a 12.4% increase compared to the same period last year.

In June alone, SAIC Motor sold 365,000 vehicles globally, a 21.6% year-on-year increase, continuing a six-month streak of consistent monthly sales growth. End-user retail deliveries also reached 2.207 million units, reinforcing a positive upward trend in both production and demand.

SAIC Motor’s focus on innovation and reform is yielding measurable results, with its “new three-driving-force” strategy—self-owned brands, new energy vehicles (NEVs), and overseas operations—fueling much of this growth.

Sales of SAIC’s self-owned brands surged to 1.304 million units in the first half, representing a 21.1% increase year-on-year, and now account for 63.5% of total volume, up 4.6 percentage points from last year. The NEV segment also recorded exceptional growth, with 646,000 units sold, up 40.2%. In June alone, NEV sales reached 121,000 units, a 29.2% increase year-on-year.

IM Motors, SAIC’s premium EV brand, delivered over 6,000 units in June, driven by demand for its flagship models—the LS6 and new L6. Meanwhile, SAIC’s passenger car division sold 16,000 NEVs, up 44.1%, with Maxus and SAIC-GM-Wuling also posting strong gains.

For the Philippine market, this momentum translates to greater access to future-ready products. With SAIC’s rapid growth in NEV innovation, MG Philippines is fortifying its position at the forefront of new energy vehicles with the MG3 Hybrid+, MG4, MG Marvel R, MG Mifa 9, MG Cyberster, and the recently launched MG ZS Hybrid+.

MG Philippines also recorded 4,632 units sold from January to June 2025–a strong year-on-year sales growth of 17.9% for the first half of 2025, significantly outpacing the industry’s overall growth rate of 2.3%. As a result of this upward trend, MG’s market share increased from 1.7% to 2.0%, reflecting growing consumer confidence in the brand and its expanding presence in the local automotive landscape.

Beyond sales, SAIC Motor continues to earn global recognition. Recent accolades include:

    • NEW MG3 Hybrid+ – Affordable Hybrid of the Year (Auto Express New Car Awards 2025, UK)
    • MG – Best Manufacturer 2025 (Autocar Awards, UK)
    • MG4 EV – Best Used EV of the Year (AM Awards 2024 & 2025, UK)
    • MG ZS Hybrid+ – Best Small SUV 2025 (Wheels Awards, Australia)
    SAIC

As SAIC Motor continues to break global records, Filipino motorists can feel reassured knowing that MG is backed by one of the world’s most innovative and fastest-growing automotive manufacturers that delivers long-term value, reliable service, and cutting-edge models tailored to modern mobility needs. With MG’s strong global momentum, the local campaign ‘Made Global. Made Great.’ stands as a promise of quality, reliability, and world-class innovation, bringing Filipino customers vehicles they can trust for the long road ahead.

FEU Public Policy Center launches seminar series on higher education regulation

    0

In a decisive move to reframe the national conversation on academic governance, the Far Eastern University Public Policy Center (FEU PPC) is launching its newest seminar series: Issues on the Regulation of Higher Education. Kicking off on Wednesday, July 30, the series brings together leading experts in policy, economics, and education to unpack the interlocking regulatory challenges shaping Philippine higher education.

The inaugural session, The Economic Bases of Regulating Higher Education, will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the FEU Makati Mini Theater. It will be led by Dr. Michael M. Alba, President of FEU PPC and UP President Edgardo J. Angara Fellowship Awardee, whose research has reignited discourse on sectoral autonomy and the role of market forces in education reform.

Dr. Alba will be joined by a distinguished panel of thought leaders:

    • Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, President of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies and former Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, who brings deep expertise in policy and governance
    • Dr. Emmanuel S. De Dios, Professor Emeritus at the UP School of Economics and FEU PPC Board Member, with decades of scholarship in economics and policy analysis
    • Dr. Vicente K. Fabella, President of Jose Rizal University and Chair of the Policy Committee at the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities, offering practical insights from the private education sector
    • Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose B. Bautista, EDCom II Advisory Council Member and former CHED Commissioner, contributing her extensive experience in education policy and innovation.

This series arrives at a pivotal moment for Philippine higher education, which faces mounting pressure to address the country’s long-standing learning crisis while balancing quality assurance, equitable access, and private-public complementarity. The FEU PPC aims for the discussions to examine how a regulatory-economics framework—one that aligns national aspirations, delivery constraints, stakeholder incentives, and the diverse contexts of higher education—can support the attainment of the aspired-for outcomes in higher education.

“Public discourse on education has thus far sidestepped the governance-outcomes nexus. It is high time that the country adopted a holistic, systemic perspective—one that clearly articulates national goals and holds an independent regulator accountable for driving higher education outcomes toward the realization of these goals,” said Dr. Alba.

The seminar is open to educators, policymakers, academic administrators, and members of the public interested in shaping meaningful reform. The FEU PPC encourages participation through its official channels, where registration and event updates are available.

Through this initiative, the FEU PPC continues to strengthen its role as a hub for policy dialogue, creating platforms where evidence-based analysis and inclusive engagement can shape the future of Philippine education.

Grab, MOVE IT launch full-scale typhoon relief efforts

    0

Grab Philippines and MOVE IT have launched a comprehensive disaster relief and community support Initiative following the devastation caused by the intensified southwest monsoon, which has displaced thousands and disrupted livelihoods across several regions in Luzon.

The initiative spans immediate aid and longer-term recovery support for Grab’s ecosystem of drivers, delivery partners, merchants, and consumers, and is being rolled out in close coordination with local government units and national agencies.

Grab Philippines managing director Ronald Roda shares, “Our hearts go out to the communities hardest hit by this week’s inclement weather.  At Grab, we believe our role as a platform goes beyond connecting services – it means showing up when it matters most.”

“We are fully mobilized to support our partners and the broader public in this time of need. Through targeted financial assistance, medical support, and relief coordination, we aim to help affected Filipinos recover safely and swiftly,” adds Roda.

    Support for Driver and Delivery-Partners

As part of its response, Grab and MOVE IT have reactivated their GrabCare and MOVE IT Malasakit programs to extend financial and welfare support to affected driver- and rider-partners. Key assistance includes:

    • Calamity Assistance: A one-time financial grant provided to eligible partners whose vehicles—cars or motorcycles—have been damaged as a direct result of the typhoon and severe flooding.
    • Medical and Hospitalization Support: In partnership with Cocolife, Grab is covering emergency room and hospitalization expenses due to typhoon-related incidents at accredited hospitals
    • Loan Repayment Holiday: A temporary moratorium on microloan repayments for qualified drivers operating in Metro Manila, Baguio, and Pampanga, providing immediate financial relief in heavily affected urban areas.

Additionally, Grab’s Emergency Response Unit (ERU) – an in-house rapid-response team trained for on-ground crisis support – remains on heightened alert. The ERU is working closely with emergency services to respond to incidents involving Grab partners or passengers during the typhoon’s aftermath.

Ongoing Relief Coordination and Community Support

Grab has also begun preparations for the second phase of its disaster response. These include:

    • Coordination with various LGUs for upcoming relief operations and clean-up drives
    • Continued monitoring of on-ground conditions to evolve response and recovery programs based on emerging needs

Furthermore, Grab Philippines has reactivated its GrabBayanihan program — a GrabRewards redemption initiative that enables users to convert their points into donation vouchers supporting McDonald’s Kindness Kitchen and World Vision. Vouchers valued at PHP20, PHP50, and PHP100 may now be redeemed for as low as 60, 150, and 300 GrabRewards Points, respectively. Through this initiative, Grab aims to help scale food relief and community support programs of its partner organizations for families affected in need of assistance.

    Grab

Sustaining a Broader Commitment to Resilience and Nation-Building

Grab’s disaster relief mobilization is part of its broader commitment to national resilience and inclusive progress, particularly for platform workers, small businesses, and underserved communities.

The company remains engaged with public sector partners and community organizations to explore further ways in which the platform can support sustainable recovery, economic stability, and public welfare following natural disasters.

“We see ourselves not just as a technology provider, but as a partner to the nation – one that responds, supports, and stands alongside Filipinos in times of great need,” Roda added.

New Epson business projectors bring affordable, big-screen brilliance to learning and meeting spaces

Epson, the global leader in projection technology, has unveiled its new line of business projectors. Designed for users seeking flexibility without compromising on big-screen impact, this new series comprises seven models – EB-E12, EB-E24, EB-X52, EB-W53, EB-W55, EB-FH54, and EB-W56S. Combining bright, vivid projection with flexible installation and simple operation, these new projectors offer a cost-effective alternative to flat-panel displays.

As more classrooms, meeting rooms, and retail venues accommodate more dynamic meeting and class setups, traditional flat panel displays (FPDs) often fall short due to fixed screen sizes and high cost for more than 100” diagonal. Architecture and interior design have evolved to feature more multipurpose walls and reconfigurable spaces, so today’s users need visual solutions that are just as adaptable, scalable, movable, and space-efficient. Projectors meet this need by offering large, flexible displays without the physical limitations of fixed screens. This new series of Epson answers the demand, offering a scalable and affordable alternative to FPDs without compromising on quality, flexibility, or ease of use.

Designed for Flexibility, Built for Big Presentations

The new EB series features compact and lightweight projectors, making them easy to install, reposition, or transport between locations. This enables users to transition seamlessly between rooms and around venues.

Thanks to multiple digital connectivity options, the projectors support a wide range of media sources for fast, plug-and-play use, and provide optional iProjection support on some models for wireless presentation via mobile devices or PCs. The EB-FH54 further enhances flexibility with built-in Wi-Fi 6, AirPlay 2, and Miracast capabilities – ideal for “bring-your-own-device” environments, reducing the hassle of wired connectivity.

Additionally, certain models include a USB-A 5V power port, allowing users to connect smart streaming devices such as the Epson ELPAP12 Android TV stick. This enables the projector to function as a smart device running on Android OS. Supported models are the EB-W55, EB-X52, and EB-FH54. With projection sizes reaching up to 300”, these new projectors from Epson can transform both compact rooms and large walls into captivating viewing experiences, offering remarkable versatility regardless of spatial constraints.

    Simple, Dependable Performance

This series of projectors is designed for a fast and intuitive setup, even for first-time users. With auto power-on, keystone correction, and screen fit functions, the projector intelligently adjusts to deliver a properly aligned image.

This series is also engineered for long-term reliability. A durable lamp design offers up to 12,000 hours of lifespan in eco mode, reducing operational costs and downtime for bulb replacement. With minimal maintenance and maximum performance, the EB series projectors make projection more practical.

    Exceptional Clarity in Any Environment

Featuring up to 4,100 lumens of brightness and powered by Epson’s 3LCD technology, these projectors deliver brilliant, accurate color and sharp detail – even in well-lit rooms. Whether it’s a detailed spreadsheet, text-heavy lecture slide, or multimedia presentation, users can count on vivid visuals that keep their audiences engaged.

Noelle Gonzalez, head of marketing at Epson Philippines Corporation, said, “At Epson, we’re committed to delivering display technology that meets the real needs of today’s classrooms and workplaces. This new series of business projectors empowers users with big-screen flexibility in even the tightest spaces, whether it’s walls that double as a whiteboard or meeting areas in constant motion. It’s a smarter way to think about display – one that’s cost-effective, adaptable, and easy for anyone to use.”

Visit Epson’s website or contact the nearest Epson Authorized Dealer store for more information.

World-class pet travel safety has officially arrived in the Philippines, anchored on a simple, heartfelt promise: to protect your pets like family. Meet Tavo, the latest name in premium pet mobility, brought to you by the creators of Nuna, the award-winning Dutch baby gear brand trusted by families worldwide.

In this light, Tavo makes its timely debut with a product that supports the very heart of this advocacy: ensuring the safety and well-being of our furry companions, especially during travel. More than a travel solution, Tavo’s arrival highlights the growing importance of protecting pets on the move—not just for their comfort, but also to safeguard fellow passengers and promote broader community health and animal welfare.

Safety Built with Love, Backed by Global Standards

With the Maeve 3-in-1 Pet Travel System, Tavo brings to the Philippines the first pet car seat rigorously tested to meet international standards for child safety. It’s a breakthrough for Filipino “paw-rents” looking for peace of mind on the road. Maeve is crash-tested to comply with United Nations ECE R129 child restraint regulations. It features advanced shock-absorbing technology and impact-resistant materials to protect both pets and passengers in the event of abrupt stops or collisions. Integrated smart harness points and secure locking mechanisms also help prevent accidental escapes and driving distractions.

“We know how deeply Filipinos love their pets—they’re part of the family,” shares Austin Hodges, global chief marketing officer at Nuna Baby. “With Tavo, we’re proud to extend our legacy of child safety innovation to our furry companions, offering them the same level of protection we’ve long provided for children,” he added.

    Tavo’s Maeve™ 3-in-1 Pet Protection System

Inspired by Nuna’s decades of engineering innovation, Maeve is more than just a pet carrier—it’s a 3-in-1 pet travel system that includes:

    • Maeve Pet Car Seat: A crash-tested pet car seat with plush interiors and breathable mesh panels for comfort
    • Vehicle Base: Built with an integrated secure locking mechanism using ISOFIX and dynamic stability controls, ensuring pets stay safe on the road
    • Roscoe™ Foldable Stroller Frame: A sleek and lightweight frame designed for effortless mobility perfect for errands or leisurely walks.

“Protection is what makes the Maeve such a must-have,” adds Helen Johnson, marketing director at Tavo Pets. “It’s not just about keeping your pet safe, it’s about protecting everyone in the vehicle and creating a stress-free, comfortable environment on every trip,” she concluded.

Made for Filipino Pet Parents Who Want Only the Best

With pet ownership on the rise, especially in urban areas like Metro Manila, modern Filipino pet parents are increasingly looking for smarter, safer, and more stylish ways to bring their pets along for the journey. Maeve answers that need with a seamless blend of function and design, available in premium fashions like Onyx, Fawn, and Merle. The Roscoe Stroller Frame, sold separately, features vegan leather accents in Black and Chocolate for a refined, elevated finish.

Filipino pet owners eager to experience the Maeve 3-in-1 Pet Travel System up close can visit the Nuna store, located on the 3rd Level of Greenbelt 5, Greenbelt Drive, Ayala Center, San Lorenzo, Makati City. They can also find Tavo at Luxuri Pets by Aivee’s newest flagship store in Parqal Mall, Parañaque City, Metro Manila, from August. At both locations, pet parents can explore the full lineup of Tavo pet gear in person and discover how the brand merges world-class safety, premium craftsmanship, and pet-first design for life on the go. For added convenience, Tavo is also available online via Shopee.

Now available in over 23 countries, Tavo’s debut in the Philippines marks a new chapter in responsible pet travel. One that champions the five animal freedoms while advancing public safety and giving pets the protection they deserve as true family members.

Whether you’re heading to the vet, driving out of town, or enjoying a walk in the park, Tavo ensures each journey is safer and more comfortable for pets and the people who love them.

AIESEC in UPLB’s YLS: Launch UP empowers 100 young leaders to continue to lead

From July 8-12, 2025, AIESEC in the University of the Philippines Los Baños (AIESEC in UPLB)
hosted a virtual Youth Leadership Summit (YLS), named Launch UP: Above and Beyond.
Attended by more than 100 youth leaders from different areas in the country, Launch UP was
geared into teaching delegates from Highschool to 1st Year College how to navigate leadership
    in the present.

Equipped with credible speakers from the AIESEC community, Launch UP focused on different
aspects of leadership, its purpose, meaning, and the active choice of doing it, all of which were
focused in empowering the delegates why leadership is essential to our society. Each day was
concluded with activities for delegates to reflect upon each speaker’s talk.

Day 1, with the theme “Lead with Purpose: Why Youth Leadership Matters Now” was opened by
Duc Anh Le Hoang (Tuna), the Outgoing Country President of AIESEC in Taiwan. Tuna
emphasized that leadership is most important during difficult times because it allows people to
care about society and its problems. The day concluded with delegates presenting how they
want to be perceived as leaders.

Day 2, with the theme “Lead with Meaning: Finding Purpose in Every Choice” had Gee Coronel,
the Outgoing Country President of AIESEC in the Philippines, as its speaker. Gee drew
inspiration from the movie “The Lorax”, and cited the line “Because unless someone like you
cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”. They enlightened the delegates
that although the world would not change in the present time, the choices they make serve as
stepping stones for the future generation’s ability to make change. The session ended with the
delegates presenting their personal leadership gardens, where they showed their inspirations
and the purpose that drives them.

Day 3, with the theme “Lead Out Loud: Present Collaborate, Impact” started with a talk from
Rae Quilapio, former Country President of AIESEC in the Philippines. Rae empowered the
delegates to keep saying yes to leadership because it’s about taking care of others. She
emphasized that leadership is about the people and never about you[rself]. Followed by the talk
was a collaborative project planning made to assess the delegate’s ability to assess, create, and
plan innovative solutions for real world problems rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals
    (SDGs).

To end the summit, AIESEC in UPLB recognized delegates with different awards to ensure that
all their efforts during their three days of workshops and collaboration were worth it.

PLDT and Smart team up with MPower to register 153 sites under Retail Aggregation Program

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless arm, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), have partnered with MPower, Meralco’s local retail electricity supplier, to activate 144 cell sites and 9 facilities under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).

“Our Group has always believed that national progress depends on two essential foundations: reliable power and strong digital connectivity. One cannot function without the other—hand in glove, so to speak—and both are critical to ensuring that our people—especially those in the margins—have access to opportunity,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of PLDT, Smart, and Meralco. “This is why this collaboration is consequential, because it reflects our continued effort to align our resources and capabilities, to serve our customers better with reliable and consistent power and connectivity.”

    MPower

PLDT and Smart’s transition into the RAP through MPower’s energy solutions cover a total demand of over 2,500kW across the PLDT Group’s integrated network. Additional RAP implementations across more sites in Visayas and Mindanao are targeted for rollout before the year ends.

RAP offers end-users a smarter way to manage their energy requirements by allowing them to aggregate multiple accounts under the same franchise area and purchase power in bulk from licensed retail electricity suppliers. This setup enables the reduction of electricity costs and better control over energy use across different facilities. RAP also gives businesses access to competitive rates, flexible energy solutions, and renewable energy sources, helping them operate more efficiently.

“As we future proof our network to deliver 5G and AI capabilities to our customers, we are also mindful of the cost to operate the network and our impact to the environment.  This partnership with MPower will allow us to operate a smarter and greener network and manage our energy costs, all in a manner that is more kind to the planet,” said PLDT chief operating officer and head of network Menardo “Butch” G. Jimenez, Jr.

“As we scale up our 5G network, Smart welcomes this partnership with MPower, as it supports our goal of delivering simply reliable service that our customers can count on,” said Smart chief operating officer Anastacio “Boy” R. Martirez.

PLDT and Smart’s RAP activation builds on their continuing transition to the use of renewable energy sources. In 2024, 30 sites of the group were switched to 100% renewables—24 in Metro Manila and 6 in Mindanao. In 2023, PLDT and Smart tapped geothermal energy for 5 network facilities in the Visayas.

Through this pioneering initiative, PLDT and Smart join MPower in encouraging more industry players to switch to cleaner and more energy-efficient solutions. MPower First vice president and head Redel M. Domingo added, “MPower is proud to support PLDT and Smart in this transformative journey. Our energy solutions are designed to accelerate operational efficiency while supporting the country’s energy transition through championing consumer choice in the power market.”

Parallel to the transition to renewables, PLDT and Smart have been pursuing the adoption of green technologies and various resource optimization initiatives for their network sites, business offices, and key facilities nationwide. PLDT has also secured green loans, amounting to PHP5 billion to date, to partially fund its fiber expansion and minimize the carbon footprint of its network rollout.

The PLDT Group follows a decarbonization roadmap that aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, coming from a 2019 baseline. These efforts support the global ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Meanwhile, MPower has been ramping up efforts to deliver more competitive pricing, improved service, and access to renewable energy in support of the ERC’s vision for wider consumer access to electricity choice as part of the reforms under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.

Lalamove Ride boosts income with 2% commission, incentives

Lalamove, the leading on-demand delivery platform, is gearing up its pool of ride-hailing partner drivers to keep up with the growing demand for affordable ride-hailing services in the country.

With the surge in demand for Lalamove Ride since its launch earlier this year, Lalamove is encouraging its partner drivers to take advantage of the additional income they can get from every booking and take home 98 percent of their earnings every ride. Notably, Lalamove’s 2% commission is one of the lowest and non-mission-based rates in the industry, meaning drivers can benefit from it with every booking.

    Stackable income opportunities

Aside from the low commission, Lalamove Ride partner drivers can boost their income by encouraging other ride-hailing and delivery drivers to join Lalamove Ride and earn up to PHP4,200 in bonuses per successful referral.

They can also join ride missions and earn an incentive up to PHP2,000 weekly, to supplement their earnings. They can also join a raffle where verified drivers can get PHP1,000, as long as the “See Ride Order First” feature is turned on. These are on top of the initial ride fares they receive from every booking.

According to Ronald Valdez, a Lalamove Ride driver, he was encouraged to join Lalamove Ride because it offers a much lower commission compared to other players.

“Nung nakita ko na 2 percent [commission] lang, ‘ba maganda rito, mas maraming kita. Nakakatulong sa pangaraw-araw na gastusin dahil malaki ‘yung kinikita,” he shared.

Another Lalamove Ride driver echoed the sentiment but highlighted the flexibility Lalamove offers to maximize his daily income because it allows partner drivers to take ride bookings and delivery orders separately, but not at the same time.

“Minsan pag-peak hours ng ride bookings, Lalamove Ride ako kasi sayang yung malaking kita 2% commission. Minsan nag-aaccept pa rin ako ng Lalamove deliveries kaya flexible ‘yung pinagkukunan ko ng kita araw-araw,” he stated.

For another Lalamove Ride driver based in Rizal, he’s taking advantage of the low commission and incentives from the bookings that he’s getting in their area.

“Nakakabiyahe na rin ako ng Lalamove Ride dito sa amin sa Antipolo kaya nakukuha ko ‘yung malaking kita kasi maliit lang ‘yung commission tapos may mga missions pa. Makakatulong talaga siya sa pamilya ko,” he added.

Lalamove Ride is available in Greater Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Pampanga, and Cebu.

Win-win situation for drivers and commuters

Djon Nacario, managing director of Lalamove Philippines, emphasized that the continued growth of Lalamove Ride in the ride-hailing space opens more income opportunities for drivers and provides an affordable option for commuters.

“We have seen an impressive growth in the number of users who are using Lalamove Ride for their day-to-day commute. We want our partner drivers to enjoy the growing number of bookings and boost their income with the stackable income opportunities we offer,” Nacario said.

“We are targeting to have 20,000 drivers before the year ends, so we are inviting more drivers to join us as the 2% commission is not a promotional offer, unlike other platforms; it’s a real benefit that they can take advantage of, with no catch,” he stated.

He also shared that Lalamove consistently provides competitive earnings and flexibility that drivers need to thrive on the platform.

Lalamove supports its partner drivers with various benefits under its Panalomove Benefits, including fuel discounts, accident insurance, and health assistance.

PAGCOR, Ad Standards Council ink MOU to regulate gambling ads

After nine months of consultations, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Ad Standards Council (ASC) signed on July 16, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding for the regulation and pre-screening of gambling-related advertisements across all media platforms.

PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco and ASC chairperson Golda Roldan led the signing ceremony at the PAGCOR Corporate Office in Pasay City as part of efforts to promote responsible advertising in the gaming industry.

    PAGCOR
Chairman Tengco, together with (from left) ASC President Anna Locsin, ASC Chairperson Golda Roldan, and PAGCOR Assistant VP for Gaming Licensing and Development Ma. Vina Claudette Oca

The agreement adds gambling to ASC’s list of “must-screen” categories, joining alcoholic beverages, over-the-counter medicines, food supplements, airline/transport services with promotional fares, and breast milk substitutes.

Tengco said the MOU was a product of careful planning and thorough consultations with the ASC, contrary to what detractors’ claims that it was a rushed response to recent concerns about illegal online gambling and unregulated advertising.

“Almost a year ago, we began initial talks about this initiative. Today, we are gathered here to formally sign this agreement so that we can immediately execute everything we committed to in this Memorandum of Understanding,” Tengco said.

Under the agreement, all branded or corporate gambling ads—including television, radio, online, and outdoor advertising— must be reviewed and approved by ASC prior to public release to curb misleading content and protect vulnerable groups from potential harm.

Chairman Tengco (4th from right) joins key officers of the ASC in a group photo.

“Simple lamang po ang pinaka-layunin natin dito: ang tiyakin na ang mga patalastas ukol sa sugal ay hindi nanlilinlang at hindi sumasamantala sa kahinaan ng iba,” the PAGCOR chief added.

For her part, ASC chairperson Roldan said the collaboration underscores ASC’s commitment to protect consumers, particularly in industries that require heightened sensitivity in messaging.

“We stand with PAGCOR in our shared goal of protecting the Filipino people, especially in sectors like gambling where communication requires greater sensitivity and care,” she said.

Earlier, PAGCOR issued a directive ordering the immediate removal of all gambling-related billboards and out-of-home advertisements, including those on public transport systems such as buses, jeepneys, taxis, and trains.

All PAGCOR licensees and stakeholders were given until August 15, 2025, to completely remove all gambling-related outdoor ads.
